Chicago Marathon 2011: 3 Things Amber Miller Can Do to Top Pregnant Marathon
Amber Miller just pulled off one of the most amazing athletic feats I have ever heard of. But I am convinced this iron woman can beat it. First let's review what she did.
The Pregnant Marathon
Amber Miller completed the Chicago marathon while being just two days short of 39 weeks pregnant. Later that day, she gave birth to a beautiful seven-pound, 13-ounce girl named June.
On the advice of her doctors, Amber ran the first 13.1 miles of the marathon and walked the rest.
Had Amber Miller not done this I would have never even begun to think that this was possible. She has clearly raised the bar on endurance sports.
The question is: Where does she go from here to top this mind-blowing feat? Here are three suggestions.
Run Marathon with June in Baby Bjorn
This one is obvious, right? June will be bigger and more of a load to haul around next year. The beauty of this idea is that she can do it every year and it will get more impressive each time.
Sure it will be little awkward having a 21-year-old June in a baby bjorn, but that is a small price to pay for proving the limitlessness of the human will's ability to transcend the nature of physical constraints.
Swim from Cuba to Florida while Towing a Boat
Recently Diana Nyad attempted for the third time to swim from Cuba to Florida. Nyad was 61 at the time of the attempt. She fell just short of her goal, but it still remains one of the most impressive feats you will ever hear about.
Miller clearly has the endurance to tackle this feat. However, she won't settle for tying this task unburdened. To really blow people's minds she must do this while towing a small boat.
Climb Mt. Everest with a Refrigerator Tied to Her Back
Climbing Mt. Everest is an impressive feat, but it has been done before. Given the increased size of the belly it wouldn't be practical to try this while pregnant.
It would make much more sense to have something on her back. She could haul a refrigerator. This would also give her a convenient spot to keep her beverages cold until she reaches the cold climate of the increased elevation.
