LSU vs. Oklahoma: Who Wins If They Both Make the BCS Title Game?
After an impressive showing against Texas, Oklahoma has proven itself once again as the No. 1 team in the country.
The Sooners began the year ranked first in the nation, but dropped off slightly in recent weeks. Yesterday at the Cotton Bowl they put on a show against the Longhorns and proved they are one of the best teams in the land.
Oklahoma is a favorite to run the table and play for a National Championship. They have enough talent on both sides of the ball and a more favorable schedule than some other teams.
LSU is close behind Oklahoma, but still has a date with Alabama next month. The winner of that game is the front runner to play for the National Championship against Oklahoma.
If that matchup happens, it could be one of the most anticipated title games in recent years, as these two teams are two of the most talented in the past decade.
The game would pit one of the best defenses in the country in LSU against one of the best offenses in Oklahoma.
The Tigers have held four of their six opponents under 12 points while the Sooners average nearly 43 points per game and rank fifth in the country in passing yards at 378 per game.
Quarterback Landry Jones and the Oklahoma passing attack, led by receiver Ryan Broyles would certainly test the secondary of LSU and cornerback Tyrann Mathieu.
Despite the absence of Jordan Jefferson for most of the season, LSU can still put some points on the board to the tone of 39 per game, led by quarterback Jarrett Lee.
The Sooner defense is no slouch either, boasting one of the Top 15 scoring defenses in the country.
With so much talent on both sides of the ball and these teams evenly matched, this game would ultimately come down to who wins the turnover battle.
The Tigers are fourth in the country in turnover margin and their ability to run the ball and control the clock could be the difference in this one.
The high-flying passing attack of Oklahoma is impressive, but is much more prone to turnovers than the more balanced LSU offense.
Against a defense as good as LSU, sooner or later the turnovers will come and that would be the difference if these two teams met for the National Championship.
