Chicago Marathon 2011 Results: Men and Women's Top Finishers
The Chicago marathon is one of the world's premier long distance races. It has a deep and talented field and the fast, flat course allows for eye popping times.
This is a 26.2 mile course that travels through more than 29 neighborhoods. This race has come a long way in a relatively short time.
The first Chicago Marathon was first held in 1977 with just 4,200 runners competing.
More than 45,000 people competed this year. It is estimated that more than a million viewers lined the course to cheer on the runners.
Men's Results
Moses Mosop made his Chicago marathon debut and the 26-year-old set a course record of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 37 seconds.
That mark broke the record of last year's champ Sammy Wanjiru, who passed away this May.
Mosop had clocked miles of 4:40, 4:37, 4:38, 4:40 and 4:39. The record breaking effort earned him a first prize of $100,000 and an additional $50,000 for setting a new record.
Wesley Korir was second with a time of 2:06:16 and Bernard Kipyego was just 13 seconds behind Korir in third.
Women's Results
Liliya Shobukhova captured the women's title with a time of 2:18:20. This was her third straight Chicago marathon victory. She is the first person to ever accomplish the three-peat.
Ejegayehu Dibaba was second with a time of 2:22:09 and Kayoko Fukushi came in third with a time of 2:24:38.
