Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Julio Jones and the Top 4 Boom-or-Bust WRs

John RozumOct 7, 2011

Boom-or-bust or make-or-break, however you want to call it, these types of players regardless of position, can be the reason why you win, as well as why you lose.

WRs may be the easiest to find in terms of boom-or-bust, since most leagues start three and have a flex option to be a possible fourth.

Therefore, anyone is bound to have a couple studs to help counteract the couple duds.

All this said, here are the top four boom-or-bust fantasy football WRs in Week 5.

4. Julio Jones, Atlanta

Week 4 in Seattle proved to Jones' breakout game as he caught 11 passes for 127 yards, whereas he only compiled 13 catches for 213 yards through the first three games combined.

This week the Falcons host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, and it sure has the feel of a shootout.

However, the major differences this time around as opposed to the 2010 postseason, are that Julio Jones is with Atlanta and the Packers are a healthy team.

Jones doesn't put up the numbers he did last week but he scores at least one TD, because in order for Atlanta's offense to keep pace with Green Bay's he'll have to reach the end zone.

3. Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis

On the year Pierre Garcon has 14 receptions for 295 yards and has scored two TDs.

The only concern is that 146 of those yards came last week, when he also scored his only two TDs.

Take those away and Garcon has 12 catches for 149 yards and zero TDs.

It's clear that Pierre is excellent in getting yard after the catch, but the most receptions he has in a game this season is only six.

Garcon is not a bad start each week, but only use him as the No. 3 WR or as a flex player, otherwise he should be on the bench because Week 4's game was a rarity.

2. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh

After the first three games, Steelers' WR Mike Wallace had accounted for 23 catches, 377 yards and two TDs.

In Week 4 however, he only caught four passes for 77 yards and did not score.

Now add in Pittsburgh's consistently weak offensive line and ground game, and Wallace's time to get open is very limited.

Also, being that he's QB Ben Roethlisberger's biggest threat, he's going to see a lot more double coverage as the season continues.

Make no mistake about it, Wallace will still put up some good numbers every so often, but it's not going to be nearly as consistent as the first two or three games were.

1. Michael Crabtree, San Francisco

The biggest concern with Michael Crabtree is his health.

His foot appears to be getting better, as evidence by his increasing productivity with each game.

In Week 4 Crabtree had five receptions for 68 yards, compared to the first two games he appear in this year He has four catches, 28 yards and missed Week 2.

So it's clear the Michael is finally beginning to develop, but other than his health, the next concern is whether QB Alex Smith can maintain his solid play for a full season, as he's been rather inconsistent through six NFL seasons.

You may want to keep Crabtree as good depth for your team, but he's not an every week starter, at least not yet (maybe in 2012).
