English Premier League: Top 23 Transfer Rumors of the Week
Transfer news continues to permeate through all the European Championship qualification hype this week.
January could be as busy a month as the entire summer window, with as much banter as is going on at the moment.
Some big names and big teams are in the mix as usual and this week's break from EPL action has had even more time for rumors to be cooked up while players are off with their repected National Teams.
This week's edition of the top 23 rumors is once again here to recap the most talked about possible moves from the first week of October 2011.
Robin van Persie Refuses To Commit
1 of 24The Daily Mail comments that Arsenal's Robin van Persie still looks set to possibly move away from the club.
It seems the more the Gunners push to sign him to an extended contract, the more likely he looks to head for the exit door.
Nenad Milijas
2 of 24Wolverhampton Wanderers' out-of-favor midfielder, Nenad Milijas, is ready to submit a transfer request if he fails to find his place in the first 11 by January.
The 28-year-old has been dropped down to the reserve team more and more as he fails to impress Mick McCarthy.
Patrick Agyemang
3 of 24Out-of-favor Queens Park Rangers attacker Patrick Agyemang was loaned out to Millwall back in the Championship.
Should QPR maintain promotion, it is possible the move could become permanent.
David Beckham
4 of 24While 36-year-old LA Galaxy and England veteran David Beckham has praised the Leonardo revolution at Paris St. Germain, he insists his family will be the determining factor in his next move.
However, knowing his wife and her love of style and fashion, I would not see Victoria Beckham holding up a move to Paris after having enjoyed time in Madrid, Milan and Los Angeles.
Ousmane Drame
5 of 24Arsenal and Arsene Wenger continue to look more interested in signing young unproven talent, as they currently are tracking 19-year-old Ousmane Drame of Serie B side Padova.
Once again, it looks like despite a terrible start, the Gunners have again abandoned interest in signing major names to fix their problems.
Pedro Leon
6 of 24Apparently, Real Madrid's Pedro Leon was a target for Chelsea this summer, but Jose Mourinho blocked the move.
It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it this January. I doubt it, since Madrid have already farmed him out to Getafe.
Zakaria Bakkali
7 of 24Manchester City look to be building their youth contingent now that they have built a very strong EPL contender with their first team. The secret to long term success is a good youth system combined with additional talent and City are looking for that exact combination.
They appear to be set for a deal to take 15-year-old attacker Zakaria Bakkali from PSV Eindhoven. The Belgian youth international is regarded as one of the top youth talents in Europe.
Oguzhan Ozyakup and Chuks Aneke
8 of 24Arsenal is set to ship out youngsters Oguzhan Ozyakup and Chuks Aneke on loan in the coming days.
The Gunners need to find ways of blooding their young talent quickly if they expect them to keep stepping up into the boots of exited stars.
Both players made their debuts against Shrewsbury in the Gunners' Carling Cup victory last month.
Nemanja Milic
9 of 24Aston Villa could make 21-year-old Serbian international Nemanja Milic their next signing in January, as the young striker has emerged as a top target for the currently undefeated Villains.
Rio Ferdinand
10 of 24Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand's agent has mentioned the Red Devil making a move to the United States and the MLS.
Earlier this week, reports linked the former United captain with a move to the Chicago Fire but that is apparently off for now.
Modibo Maiga
11 of 24Newcastle United look to be aiming for another French target this winter, as Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga will be the subject of renewed interest for the currently undefeated Northern club.
Theo Walcott
12 of 24Although it has been denied as true, Juventus appear to have made a bid for Arsenal's Theo Walcott.
Despite the debated truth to this rumor, it does not surprise me to see other Gunners linked with exits as the club continues its poor form.
Fabricio Coloccini
13 of 24Newcastle's Argentine stalwart at the back, Fabricio Coloccini, has silenced any doubt that he is moving on from St. James Park after his current contract expires in 2013.
He has stated his happiness at the club and looks set to sign a new extended contract to keep him in North England for the foreseeable future.
Neymar
14 of 24Upstart club Anzhi Makhachkala has expressed interest in trying to bring Neymar to their club in the future.
The Russians already made Samuel Eto'o the highest paid footballer in the world, but I believe the South American forward is more keen on La Liga or EPL than the frozen tundra in Russia.
Carlos Tevez
15 of 24Manchester City misfit Carlos Tevez could be nearing an exit to Italy and a less daunting language barrier than he currently experiences in England.
Serie A leaders Juventus are reportedly pushing for a move that would see the Argentine move to the peninsula in January.
Jamie Carragher
16 of 24Liverpool legend and vice captain Jamie Carragher admits that the time could be nigh for him to retire, as he looks at the possibility of calling it quits in the future.
If the Reds could make a legitimate title push next season, I believe he would stay around hoping to finally taste the EPL trophy before his exit, but that is unknown at the moment.
Dan Gosling
17 of 24Newcastle United could loan out midfielder Dan Gosling to Championship side Doncaster as they look to make a push up the second division table.
Gosling has been lightly used so far this season and may welcome the chance for more time on the pitch as he looks to rehabilitate his form after a long term knee injury.
Jose Bosingwa
18 of 24This summer, it looked like Chelsea's Jose Bosingwa was set for an exit in the future from Stamford Bridge.
Now, it appears the 29-year-old has become part of the plan again as he could sign an extended contract with the Blues.
Max Clayton
19 of 24Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp hopes to beat others to the punch, as he is tracking 17-year-old Max Clayton of Crewe Alexandra.
Clayton has also been a target for Liverpool, and Spurs are eyeing up a bid for him in January.
Daniele De Rossi
20 of 24Roma midfielder and Italian international Daniele De Rossi is set to sign a new deal with the Wolves in the near future.
The deal would see him turn down the opportunity to possibly join Manchester City or Chelsea in the summer, as both EPL clubs have shown interest.
Hogan Ephraim
21 of 24Queens Park Rangers player Hogan Ephraim is set to be shipped back down to the Championship on loan to Crystal Palace.
The arrival of additional talent since joining the top flight has seen Ephraim fall way down the pecking order.
Scott Allan
22 of 24West Brom look to be joining the race for Dundee United 19-year-old midfielder Scott Allan.
Manchester United are thought to be way ahead of the rest in their plan to prize away the starlet. Roy Hodgson is desperate to add talent fast, but January could already be too late by that point.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel
23 of 24Manchester United are reportedly in the unit for Dutch forward Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon.
The Holland player could follow a long line of successful Dutchmen to play for United, with recently retired goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar and former striker Ruud von Nistelroy as some of the best to have pulled on the Red kit in the last 10 years.
