Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Despite reports that the Miami Dolphins would be interested in signing David Garrard with Chad Henne out for the season, they are probably going in a different direction.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported via Twitter that the Dolphins are planning on signing Sage Rosenfels to the roster.
This is a big blow to Garrard, who has yet to find a job since being surprisingly cut late in the preseason.
Justin Doubleday of WEEI.com reported that Garrard’s agent foolishly demanded for his client's contract to be fully guaranteed and be guaranteed that he would be a starter or at the very least have a good chance of starting.
Apparently, he is making these demands to any team asking about the former starting QB. No one seems to want to sign Garrard, despite the fact he is one of the best free agent QBs on the market.
The former Jaguars QB might still have a chance to be signed by the team, as Jeff Darlington reports: “Dolphins leaning toward signing Sage Rosenfels, but he hasn't yet passed physical. He was added to Giants' IR in August with blood illness.”
Garrard should be happy just to have a job in the NFL at this point. If he ever wants to get his career back on track, he will need to accept a backup role, even if temporary.
This would show his commitment to the game and it would also keep him physically and mentally sharp. By expecting to just come into a system and be a starter, Garrard is hamstringing himself and his future.
Matt Moore may not be a better signal caller than Garrard, but at least he has been with the team since training camp and most likely understands the offense pretty well.
Garrard would have no idea of the playbook and it would be irrational to think he could just come in and start. If he rode the pine for a few weeks and learned, he would easily take over when Moore struggled or became injured.
He really needs to find a new agent and stop making crazy demands if he wants to be back in the league.
