NFL Rumors: Dolphins Making Huge Mistake by Rejecting David Garrard
I don’t get it.
What are the Miami Dolphins thinking at this point?
In the midst of their bye week, they decided to work out two QBs in hopes of signing one to compete with Matt Moore for the starting gig. Chad Henne is potentially out for the season with a shoulder injury and Moore went 16 of 27 for 167 yards and one interception in relief in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers.

Then need somebody.
The pair were Brody Croyle and Trent Edwards—two guys that never did much of anything in the NFL. They would be a downgrade from Henne.
The ‘Fins reached out to Garrard and fellow castoff Jake Delhomme, but both players scoffed at the possibility of not receiving a guaranteed contract for the rest of the season.
Garrard’s agent told the Miami Herald on Tuesday that “everyone is still open to the possibility,” but it sounds like the Dolphins would have to guarantee the rest of the year.
Do it, Dolphins.
Garrard, the former Jacksonville starter, threw for 2,734 yards and 23 touchdowns last season, before being unexpectedly cut from the Jaguars prior to the start of the season. Last year, you could still call him a top-20 QB in the league. That would be a major step forward for the woeful ‘Fins.
He made Mike Sims-Walker a star and that’s an impressive accomplishment considering how average he’s looked in St. Louis thus far.
He can get the ball down the field to Brandon Marshall and isn’t afraid to tuck the ball and run. Personally, I was shocked to hear he was cut until understanding the vast amount of money involved. With a bonus worth millions of dollars on the line, the Jags were saving money. If that wasn’t an issue…Garrard would still be there.
The 33-year-old still has at least one more productive season left in the tank. Not shelling-out a small amount of dough to sign him is a slap in the face of an already fed up fanbase.
The Dolphins don’t play again until Oct. 17th, on Monday night against the New York Jets. That means Garrard would have been able to practice with the team for almost two weeks before getting thrown into action. That’s about the same amount of time the Colts gave Kerry Collins.
If the Dolphins decide to stick with Moore and ignore Garrard, they are sending a message loud and clear to their fans and the NFL:
We are going to win the “suck for Luck” sweepstakes.
