Manny Pacquiao: 3 Things He Might Do If He Loses to Juan Manuel Márquez

Nedu ObiOct 5, 2011

Manny Pacquiao is slated to fight Juan Manuel Márquez on Nov. 12. This will be their trilogy, and probably final meeting before either fighter moves on to the next phase of their individual boxing careers.

Pacquiao, (53-3-2) and an eight-division world champion is more or less expected to take care of business when both combatants contest for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title.

There’s one major obstacle to Pacquiao’s ascendancy to all time greatness and pound-for-pound overlord though, and that's the fact that the best laid plans don’t always come to fruition.

Nothing is ever a given, in any sport, and particularly in a sport as unforgiving as boxing. Márquez, (53-5-1) and a three-division champion just might upset the apple-cart, and then what?

Well, it leaves Pacquiao minus his title and a whole lot of questions, like where does go he from there and will he ever fight again?

In the worst case scenario, here are several things that Pacquiao might do...

3. Politics

1 of 3

Pacquiao has already planned his next vocation after boxing. It's politics.

Pacquiao has the ability to make a clean break from boxing and pursue his budding political career as a congressman in the Philippines House of Representatives—representing the Sarangani Province.

2. Márquez Re-Match

2 of 3

Pacquiao might want to redeem himself, both for the way the public would view him and for his wounded pride.

And if that is the case, then a fourth and final match-up between the two to determine who holds sway over the other in boxing might be on the cards.

That’s regardless of how Pacquiao’s trilogy ends with Márquez, whether Pacquiao loses via Blitzkrieg or another controversial decision.

1. Floyd Mayweather

3 of 3

Timothy Bradley and Sergio Martinez are just a few names that Pacquiao could pull out of the hat if he decides to forgo a rubber-match with Márquez.

However, nothing would be as mouth watering as a prospect than a clash with boxing's bad boy, Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

It’s made headline news and it’s been a discourse for the casual fans and the pugilist purists.

Sure, the appeal for the fight won’t generate as much interest if Pacquiao were to lose to Márquez, but it’s a fight nonetheless, and I think that it’s a fight the public would still want to see.
