Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 5: Matt Hasselbeck and 3 Players to Add

John RozumOct 4, 2011

We all have our fantasy starters, but having some solid players to add depth can really put your overall team over the edge.

For one, injuries do happen so you'll need a stud to come in and perform, and bye weeks are relevant, so there's another reason to need a good backup.

The following four players aren't weekly starters, but they can surely be of use if you want a make a run at the fantasy football championship.

Matt Hasselbeck: QB, Tennessee Titans

The former Seattle Seahawks, now Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck has eight TDs to only three picks, and has thrown for 1,152 yards.

And even though star WR Kenny Britt is out, RB Chris Johnson is getting closer to being back to normal.

In turn, that allows the Titans offense to be dangerously multidimensional, therefore taking pressure off the passing game.

Plus, if Tennessee is to compete with Houston in the AFC South, Hasselbeck has no choice but to play well.

Jason Campbell: QB, Oakland Raiders

Much like the previously mentioned Hasselbeck, Raiders QB Jason Campbell has a solid run game to rely on with RB Darren McFadden.

And although he's only thrown four TDs along with three picks this season, Campbell has compiled over 320 yards twice (Buffalo, New England), and has a 65.3 completion percentage.

Hence, he's effective and a solid game-managing QB that can throw the rock when needed.

Hasselbeck should be you're first choice if you have the liberty, but Campbell isn't a bad pick up either.

Stevan Ridley: RB, New England Patriots

After their Week 4 win, it's apparent that the Patriots want to use rookie RB Stevan Ridley more and more.

Last week he accounted for 97 rushing yards, and scored his first TD against the Oakland Raiders.

Now, although New England has an array of RBs (Danny Woodhead, Benjarvus Green-Ellis) in addition to Ridley, he will get some touches as the change of pace back.

Ridley would be an ideal flex backup, and based on his Week 4 numbers, he can deliver when called upon.

Early Doucet: WR, Arizona Cardinals

Being a WR in Arizona not named Larry Fitzgerald, it's going to be difficult getting a lot of targets regardless of who's under center.

That being said, though, Early Doucet has been targeted 21 times by QB Kevin Kolb, and has 13 catches for 217 yards (both second on team behind Fitz) and one TD.

As the season progresses, Fitzgerald will get his numbers as expected, but whenever he's having a down game, that's where Doucet comes in.

Kolb is beginning to spread the rock around even more, and it's for certain that Doucet will get his.

If you're in the need of a solid backup WR, a No. 3 starting WR, or a backup flex, Early Doucet will most definitely suffice.
