4 Packers Who Aren't Living Up to Expectations
The Green Bay Packers as an entire team are not only living up to expectations, but they are easily surpassing early season expectations. However, there are certain individual pieces of the team that are struggling more than others.
There aren't many—and some of these might even be a stretch—but here are four Green Bay Packers who aren't living up to expectations.
Donald Driver, WR
1 of 4After a disappointing statistical season last year for Donald Driver, many were optimistic that he would rebound nicely for the 2011 season.
However, things haven't been going very well for Driver to start the season. Through four games, he only has eight receptions for 71 yards and a single touchdown.
Currently, Driver has the sixth most receptions and seventh-most yards on the team. Those numbers don't bode well for the No. 2 receiver on a team.
It's been tough going so far for Driver, and I can't see it getting any better with the continued high level of play from the wide receivers behind him on the depth chart.
Clay Matthews, OLB
2 of 4I know that Clay Matthews has been dealing with getting double- and triple-teamed all year long, but still, one sack through four games isn't what we are used to seeing from him.
For a player that was supposed to contend for Defensive Player of the Year, you would expect a little more than one sack. I'm not saying that Matthews is playing horrible football because that isn't true.
All I'm saying is that expectations for him were Defensive Player of the Year and so far, he isn't playing at that level.
Erik Walden, OLB
3 of 4The same reasoning for Clay Matthews not living up to expectations applies to Erik Walden also.
In Dom Capers' defense, you can't have a pass-rushing outside linebacker with only one sack through four games. In fact, if Walden was doing a better job at applying pressure to quarterbacks, teams wouldn't be able to focus so much attention on Matthews.
Once again, Walden isn't playing horribly, but expectations for an outside linebacker in this defense is more than one sack through four games.
Tramon Williams, CB
4 of 4Entering this season, Tramon Williams was being talked about as one of the top cover cornerbacks in the NFL.
Unfortunately, in the three games that Williams has played in, he hasn't looked like one of the top cornerbacks in the league. He's been getting beat by less talented players far too often. It's almost as if Williams is trying to make the interception instead of simply defending the pass.
For the Green Bay Packers secondary to improve, Williams needs to start living up to the high expectations placed on him this year.
