Curt Schilling Crosses The Border, Takes Blog To Major Boston Radio Network

Josh NasonNov 30, 2008

Curt Schilling, the outspoken pitcher that attained legend-status in Boston, will be taking his keyboard and hard drive to WEEI as they announced Schilling will join the growing media company as a blogger and online presence for their website.

Schilling has been writing blogs for his personal site 38pitches.com for several years, getting applauded and ripped for his long-form opinions and topics of the day, ranging from the happenings of the Red Sox to politics.

He hasn't announced whether he'll attempt a return to the mound, but he will be writing every week, do video blogs, and even participate in six live in-game blogs during Red Sox games. He also will keep up his weekly radio appearances and stop by in-studio once a month, all assumed to remain on the Dennis & Callahan morning show.

From Curt's likely final post on 38pitches last Wednesday:

"Oh and just know that there are some conditions to moving. One of them is that I don’t get edited (though that might be a good thing in the end) and the content I write gets posted as written. That won’t change. I’ll also continue to keep the forum open to responses and posts, but will hopefully move to doing some more interactive Q&A stuff as well as more interesting baseball and 38 Studios stuff as time goes by."

So a few questions:

- I'll assume he's not doing this for free and that in exchange for his time, the relationship between WEEI and Curt's Pitch For ALS and the SHADE Foundation will continue. If they were giving $5,000 per year for a blogger contest, I would assume Curt's Pitch is doing pretty well from this.

- Why would Schilling go away from 38pitches? He's already known in that space, so I'm not sure what there is to gain from this move. Most anytime he posts something, it's newsworthy. However, I think the answer is probably in the money and push that WEEI will contribute to his charities.

Regardless, the man that has had problems with the media is now a deeper part of it. Welcome home, Curt. Welcome home.
