WWE Hell in a Cell 2011 Results: 7 Huge New Rivalries We Could See Going Forward
As the smoke clears from WWE's brutal Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, one question is sure to spring to mind for the viewers: just what new, exciting rivalries are going to emerge from the carnage on tomorrow night's Raw?
Certainly, the pay-per-view was a night of wild action that offered a great deal of potential going forward: At the start of the show we saw the rebel tag team Awesome Truth (R-Truth and The Miz) surface on WWE television for the first time since they were unceremoniously fired by COO Triple H; a newly turned Sheamus conquer Christian in a thrilling opener; the battle of the Sin Cara's; Mark Henry brutally dominated Randy Orton once again; Beth Phoenix finally snatched the Divas Champion from frequent foe Kelly Kelly; and Albero Del Rio won back the title in a gripping main event after which, in a long post match angle, Miz and R-Truth got involved and took everyone in the match out, before getting arrested by the cops and attacked by an irate HHH, who also shoved down Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis (and they say TNA is overbooked...).
So, what new feuds can we expect to come from the show? Let's take a look...
Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger
1 of 7These two have been bickering like a couple of old ladies for weeks now, ever since an opportunistic Vickie made it clear she was eager to acquire the services of Jack Swagger, ruffling the feathers of her current client, Dolph Ziggler.
Of course, with Vickie's encouragement, Swagger and Ziggler seemed to have put aside their problems at the pay-per-view to take on Air Boom (Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne) and attempt to win the tag titles from the high-flyers. Unfortunately, they faltered here, and Swagger was pinned after a resourceful and nimble Bourne turned a powerbomb attempt into a huracanrana for the victory.
Knowing the problems Dolph and Swagger have had, it seems very likely their already-shaky alliance will soon dissolve as a disgruntled Ziggler inevitably blames his new tag team partner for being sloppy and costing them the titles, leading to a feud between the two on Raw. Expect Vickie to be caught in the middle, too.
Kelly vs Natalya
2 of 7After a decent Divas Title reign, during which she surpassed many people's expectations, Kelly Kelly lost her title to frequent foe Beth Phoenix at WWE's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view after interference from Phoenix's best friend and sidekick, Natalya. The third generation diva violently hit the champion over the head with the mic while the referee's back was turned, allowing Phoenix to hit the GlamSlam on her weakened opponent and seize the belt for the "Divas of Doom."
Despite how good their matches have been, after seeing Kelly take on Beth Phoenix three times in a row on pay-per-view, it is surely time for something new for the former bikini model. And she can find that in Natalya, with the storyline logic being that Kelly is furious at Natalya for costing her the title.
Additionally, the experienced Natalya is a gifted women's wrestler who will be able to carry the hard-working but still green Kelly to good matches, similar to how Phoenix did during her program with Kelly.
Sin Cara vs. Christian
3 of 7Good Sin Cara (well, the one in the blue) emerged victorious from his spirited bout with his evil alter-ego at Hell in a Cell. But what now for the Mexican superstar? Well, after his loss to Sheamus in the opening match of the show Christian finds himself at a loose end on Smackdown. He's out of the title picture (for now, anyway), but remains a solid, credible worker capable of having a good match with virtually anyone. His impeccable heel work is as over as ever, too. It seems a shame for the Canadian to languish in the mid-card when his skills could be used to elevate newer talents.
So, could a program with up and coming babyface Sin Cara be on the cards? Certainly, it would keep both occupied for the time being; and both men have far too much talent to simply allow their program to become a run-of-the-mill filler feud.
Additionally, the man behind the original Sin Cara mask, Mistico, has struggled to adapt fully to the WWE style since joining the promotion earlier this year, and certainly working with a capable and helpful in-ring general like Christian would aid the Mexican headliner a great deal.
Mark Henry vs. Sheamus
4 of 7After crushing Randy Orton and dominating him for a second time at Hell in a Cell, it might be time for the monstrous Henry to move on from "The Viper." After all, what more can their feud accomplish?
If this is indeed the case, the best candidate for Henry's next opponent would seem to be Sheamus, currently Smackdown's second most popular babyface. The two also have unfinished business, stemming from their short but brutal program a couple of months ago (the highlight of which was Henry violently smashing him through the barricade at the Summerslam PPV, leaving the Irishman unable to get up and back into the ring, directly leading to his loss by count out).
For his part, Sheamus is coming off an impressive victory over Christian at the event, and is clearly ready to move on to something bigger (literally, Henry is huge) and we'd like to see Sheamus get another shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Hey, after a year of credible performances and getting over well with the fans as a babyface, he's certainly earned it.
Cody Rhodes vs. John Morrison
5 of 7Despite getting a title match unexpectedly sprung on him by vengeful COO Triple H at Hell in a Cell (or so Johnny Ace claimed), current IC Champion Cody Rhodes managed to cleanly pin Job Morrison and retain his belt. Sorry, I mean, John Morrison.
But while he may have defeated Morrison (who was dominating until he made a mistake that cost him the match), we strongly suspect this rivalry isn't quite over and, in fact, may just be getting started on WWE television. Certainly, it could be an entertaining mid-card feud that would keep both occupied for a little while.
Eve vs. Beth Phoenix
6 of 7After taking on Kelly Kelly three times, we reckon new champion Beth Phoenix desperately needs a fresh opponent for her WWE Divas Championship.
And who better than Eve? The former dancer is eager to learn, over with the crowd and her perky personality and stunning good looks makes for the perfect contrast with the angry, violent Beth. No doubt trained wrestler Phoenix will have something to say about Eve's status as a former WWE Diva Search winner, too.
Eve is also only of the better wrestlers out of the current crop of models and, unlike her new best friend Kelly, has actually learned to run the ropes properly! (Kelly, honey, some friendly advice from a fan: they're only ropes; they're not made of barbed wire or anything.)
We reckon a feud between Eve and Beth would make a lot of sense right now, and be a great, exciting new program for the women's division on Raw.
Triple H vs the World
7 of 7Kevin Nash, Vickie Guerrero, Christian, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, David Otunga, Cody Rhodes, The Miz, R-Truth, CM Punk, John Laurinaitis, the New Orleans Police Department, movie critics...okay, is there anyone new COO of WWE Triple H isn't feuding currently with?
You thought he had enemies before Hell in a Cell? Heck, after the show it's pretty clear the stubborn HHH can't get along with, like, anyone. As the power struggle angle unravels on Raw, a frustrated and irate HHH finds his status and job in WWE under fire from all sides and is violently fighting back.
With this in mind, it's only a matter of time before the beleaguered COO boldly declares war on the whole of Planet Earth. Considering his past reluctance to job, we personally see Hunter coming out on top in this feud.
