College Football Rankings: The Top 10 and Who Can Keep Them out of the BCS
We've played more than a quarter of the college football season, and the top teams have separated themselves from the rest of the nation.
Basically we have a case of the haves and the have nots. Only a handful of teams have a legitimate shot of reaching the BCS National Championship Game.
Yet for the teams that have already seen their chances of playing for a title blown up, there is still the opportunity at playing spoiler.
Let's take a look at a few teams that can ruin the dream of reaching the BCS National Championship Game for each of the current Top 10 teams.
1. Oklahoma
1 of 10Already Defeated: Florida State, Missouri
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: at Texas, at Kansas State, Texas A&M, at Baylor, at Oklahoma State
The Sooners got by one tough road test in Florida State early, but have a bunch more road games to overcome along the way.
For Oklahoma it's simple: Win on the road and play for the BCS National Championship.
Traditionally, Oklahoma has struggled on the road, especially quarterback Landry Jones, who's interceptions are way up away from home.
This Oklahoma team is far better than most of the past few though.
While anything can happen when Oklahoma and Texas hook things up, circle the date Dec. 3 on your calender.
Who Will Keep Them Out of the BCS National Championship Game?: Dec. 3 at Oklahoma State
2. Alabama
2 of 10Already Defeated: Penn State, Arkansas, Florida
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: LSU, at Mississippi State, at Auburn, SEC Championship Game
Being one of the top ranked SEC teams, all Alabama has to do is take care of business on the field, and the Tide will ultimately reach its destination.
For the Crimson Tide, getting past LSU is without a doubt the toughest roadblock remaining. That game is at home, so Bama has a big edge there.
Then there is the Iron Bowl, and it's at Auburn this year.
The Tigers, despite all of their losses, have shown they will compete for four quarters, and anything can happen in a rivalry game.
Who Will Keep Them Out of the BCS National Championship Game?: Nov. 26 at Auburn
3. LSU
3 of 10Already Defeated: Oregon, Mississippi State, West Virginia
Toughest Road Blocks Remaining: Florida, Auburn, at Alabama, Arkansas, SEC Championship Game
If they make the BCS National Championship Game, LSU will have earned it. No team will have faced the brutal schedule that the Tigers will have to concur in 2011.
They are about halfway through the gauntlet, but still have about five tough tests remaining. The good news for LSU is that all but one of those regular season tough games are at home.
The bad news is that they have to go to Alabama.
That game there should determine who goes to the BCS National Championship game, but there is still an outside chance they could make it if they lose.
LSU would have to hope the winner of the Oklahoma State-Oklahoma also drops another game and Stanford and Wisconsin would also have to falter along the way. That is just for starters. and there are a lot of what ifs for that to happen, but it is possible.
Then there is the Boise State situation which could become an animal all to its own.
The easiest way for LSU to reach the title game is by winning out. Easier said then done though.
Who Can Cost Them the BCS National Championship Game?: Nov. 5 at Alabama
4. Stanford
4 of 10Already Defeated: Arizona, UCLA
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: at USC, Oregon, Notre Dame
Stanford has potentially the best player in college football in Andrew Luck, and one thing is for sure, Luck won't cost them any games.
The Oregon game sticks out, but that one Stanford has at home, but getting by that doesn't assure them anything.
There could still be a pair of undefeated teams ahead of them.
Who Could Keep Them Out of the BCS National Championship Game?: Nov. 12 versus Oregon
5. Wisconsin
5 of 10Already Defeated: Nebraska
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: at Michigan State, at Ohio State, at Illinois, Penn State, Big Ten Championship Game
I picked Wisconsin and Alabama to play in the BCS National Championship Game in the preseason, so I have a hard time seeing either team not getting there at the moment.
The Badgers don't really have much standing in their way the rest of the season. A two-game road trip featuring Michigan State and Ohio State could be tough, but nothing Wisconsin shouldn't be able to get by.
They may have to see Nebraska again in the Big Ten Championship Game, and beating a team twice isn't easy.
Yet their biggest obstacle could be two teams not on their schedule. If Oklahoma or Oklahoma State finish unbeaten, they will likely find a way into the title game instead.
Who Will Cost Them the BCS National Championship Game?: Big Ten Championship Game versus Nebraska
6. Boise State
6 of 10Already Defeated: Georgia, Nevada
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: TCU
I like making the case for Boise State, but it is very difficult this season.
There are just too many teams with better resumes that will be there in the end. If a whole bunch of teams are saddled with a loss, then maybe we can talk about them. But until that happens, the Broncos should get into the BCS, just not the title game.

7. Oklahoma State
7 of 10Already Defeated: Arizona, Texas A&M
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: at Texas, at Missouri, Baylor, at Iowa State, Oklahoma
This team can be so good, and we all know how explosive they are. I have a difficult time making a case for them losing to anyone the rest of the way.
Having the Sooners at home will be big for them.
Yet there are a couple of road games not to overlook, including a big one upcoming at Texas.
A key thing for the Big 12 is that there is no conference championship game this year. One less game to lose for Oklahoma State.
Who Will Keep Them Out of the BCS National Championship Game?: Oct. 15 at Texas
8. Clemson
8 of 10Already Defeated: Auburn, Florida State, Virginia Tech
Toughest Road Blocks Remaining: North Carolina, at Georgia Tech, at South Carolina, ACC Championship Game
Well the Tigers passed another test, this time winning on the road and finally defeating Virgina Tech.
No team has seen the rapid climb up the rankings that Clemson has seen. They've gone from an unranked team to finding themselves sitting in the Top 10 after defeating three consecutive ranked teams.
Dabo Swinney's team is certainly starting to make believers out of everyone, but there is still a ton of work left to do.
Clemson should be fine in Death Valley, but has a pair of remaining tough road games to overcome. Not only that, but the Tigers will have a lot of scoreboard watching to do. If a pair of the current Top 5 teams finish the season unbeaten, then it really won't matter much what Clemson does.
Who Will Keep them Out of the BCS Championship Game?: Georgia Tech
9. Oregon
9 of 10Already Defeated: Arizona
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: Arizona State, at Stanford, USC
One good thing about losing in Week 1 is that you have the whole season to climb back into the race.
Oregon is already back in it after losing to LSU, but has the damage already been done?
The Ducks can win out and the best they can do is watch the scoreboard and hope the dominos fall their way.
Who Will Cost Them the BCS National Championship Game?: LSU
10. Texas
10 of 10Already Defeated: BYU, UCLA, Iowa State
Toughest Roadblocks Remaining: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, at Missouri, at Texas A&M, at Baylor
The schedule is too tough for this young Texas team to really consider them contenders at the moment. The Longhorns' next two games are against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. If they get by them, then we will talk.
