Andrew Luck's Passing and 1-Handed Catch Boost Heisman Hopes
So far through four games of the 2011 season, Stanford QB Andrew Luck has compiled 1,013 yards and thrown 11 TDs to just one interception.
He has also rushed for 58 yards on 11 attempts and scored one TD.
On Saturday night however, Luck added another dimension to his repertoire of abilities—receiving.
We already knew he was a great athlete that could make any throw on the field, or if he were to take off running, that it would be like a freight train bowling over any defender attempting to tackle him.
But receiving takes a lot more finesse than most people think and after watching how strong and tough Andrew Luck has been, it was almost hard to believe he could be so much more.
Well he is more—more dangerous that is and may have separated himself from the rest of the Heisman pack with that one-handed catch along the sidelines for a Cardinal first down.
Luck's ability to catch the rock now allows another dimension of the Stanford offense, where they can use him as a TE or a wing TE to change up the formations and personnel.
The Cardinal can bring in the backup QB so he can get some real game experience, have Luck run some routes and catch more passes because he's clearly more athletic than most LBs. But it appears he's bigger and just as athletic as most DBs.
The only skill category left to be discovered by Luck analysts is his blocking skills. Would he be any good at it? If I had to guess, that would be an undisputed yes.
And who knows, but if you're a complete football player you know how to pass, run, catch, tackle and block, then you are the very definition of Andrew Luck.
All this being said, throwing the football comes down to it for the Stanford QB.
He's gotten better with every game this season, and with the current pace of his numbers, it's very possible that Luck tosses close to 40 TDs and only five picks for 3,500 yards.
The scariest part about how good he is, is the fact that he still has another year of eligibility.
Just sayin'.
