Week 4 Fantasy Football Projections: Drew Brees and 5 QBs You Need to Start

T.J. McaloonSep 29, 2011

The most important position in fantasy football is the quarterback. They will score you the most points, unless Wes Welker goes off for 200 yards and two touchdowns again.

If you have a quarterback that’s good for 250-300 yards and multiple touchdowns, there’s a good chance that you’ll win your matchup that week. However, if you're stuck with a quarterback that struggles to score or gain yards, you’re probably struggling every week.

To help you in this upcoming fantasy football week, here are five quarterbacks that will help you have a big performance.

1. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

It’s hard to believe but the Detroit Lions have one of the best offenses in the NFL. They finally have a quarterback who is healthy in Matthew Stafford.

Stafford goes against the Dallas Cowboys this week. That is, a Dallas Cowboys team that allowed 300 yards and two touchdowns to Mark Sanchez and a two-touchdown day to the San Francisco 49ers' Alex Smith.

If Alex Smith is scoring multiple times; then you know Stafford will be very successful.

2. Tom Brady, New England Patriots

In three games this year, Brady has thrown for 500, 400 and 300 yards in each game. If Brady continues on this path, he’ll have just 200 yards this week.

That is very unlikely to happen, as the Patriots still have no running game and the Raiders are lacking a secondary.

Expect Tom to be pushing the 400-yard threshold again with three or more touchdowns.

3. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

The Packers are like the Patriots this year. They still do not have an established running game.

Yes, they were pushing 100 yards for Ryan Grant last week, but their offense lives and dies by the passing game.

This week, the Packers are in Denver to play a struggling Broncos team with their best cornerback (Champ Bailey) injured.

The only problem with this game is if the Packers go up by a big score early on, they’ll likely shut Rodgers down and run the ball for the majority of the second half.

4. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

Philip Rivers and the Chargers host the Miami Dolphins this week. This is the same Dolphins team that gave up 500 yards to Tom Brady in Week 1. In Week 2, they gave up another 300-plus yards to Matt Schaub and the Texans.

Start Rivers and watch him throw for close to 400 yards this week.

5. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Brees is like Aaron Rodgers in his game this week, as the Saints are in Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. The Saints could get up early in this game and pull Brees in the fourth quarter to prevent injury.

However, Brees should have two touchdowns and 200 yards passing in the first half. If they do decide to shut Brees down, your team will not be affected.
