Portland Trail Blazers Game 17: Chris Paul Takes a Fall...

Bleacher ReportNov 28, 2008

So...I watched last night's game between the Hornets and the Nuggets on TNT.

(Side note: Have you ever noticed that TNT games go on at least a half hour longer than an ESPN game?  Is it to fit in commercial breaks?  Is it to fit in all that glamorous NBA propaganda?  Can someone tell me???)

In that game, the Hornets' three-point shooting at the end of the fourth quarter was jaw dropping, and the Nuggets could do nothing but sink their heads and head to the locker room.

That game had me REALLY WORRIED about our game against the Hornets tonight.

The Hornets are a playoff DEEP team.

Even though this series is usually a home-court advantage...I had a sinking feeling.

Remember the scene in the movie Braveheart where the King of England hears that the Scottish hordes are trampling their enemies, moving closer towards his kingdom?  That king got pretty upset...So upset he was ready to call a TRUCE!

That's how I felt.

I wanted to call a truce with New Orleans...Because they truly were a deadly enemy, one that had grown stronger, one that was flying into our town TONIGHT with the intention of INVADING our CASTLE and SLAUGHTERING our TROOPS.

There was going to be a battle.

The battle occurred, and as the smoke cleared...

The Blazers, and their fans, had done EXACTLY what needed to be done. First, we held off the palace walls by dumping hot water onto their front line. When they were able to use a fierce battering ram to break down our palace gate...We were waiting with shields and spears ready to drive them out, and send them back from whence they came...

After the victory over the Heat, it was watching Roy pump to the crowd that made me realize just how far our team has come. Tonight, it was seeing Paul Allen point to the fans that made me realize just how UNITED this city is over our team.

A few years back, it was the addition of two incredible players, Roy and Aldridge, that turned our team into potential contenders.  This year's addition of ODEN, RUDY, and that sneak attack BATUM has made US the dreaded conjurers.

Face it, our game plan is pretty hard to beat. We either blow you away by dominating the boards and unleashing the most vicious second unit in the league, and if that fails...We hang tight and let Brandon Roy make YouTube highlights out of your team.

Just when was the last time Blazers had an All Star who made All Star plays???

Was it...Clyde?

Seriously though, our franchise needs to understand that we are making some good teams angry. I hate to think about what Houston wants to do to us. I can only imagine what San Antonio has in store. Thus every win counts, especially early ones, because there will be some Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn vengeance heading our way..and we need to be ready.

But for now, we just need a few big road wins...just a FEW...out East....

So go, noble Blazers, onto your next long road trip...

Take no prisoners...

And if you do...

Well...

Don't.
