WWE: CM Punk Is Not the Savior of the Company, Yet
Since his famous shoot promo in June, CM Punk has been on a roll. He's viewed as the next possible savior of the WWE, bringing an edge both in the ring and during his promos.
Except since time has passed, Punk has gone back down to his normal stature as the upper level mid-carder who is also part of the main event scene. Yes, he walked away with the WWE Championship after Money in the Bank like he told the world he was going to and has been around the center of the conspiracy theory that everybody keeps talking about, but it's not enough.

Fans all over the WWE Universe immediately jumped on the Punk bandwagon and in the process set themselves up for a major disappointment. They were screaming for a return of the Attitude Era and the end of the PG rating system.
However, those were some very high expectations for one man to fulfill.
The Attitude Era was filled with controversy similar to that of what's going on now, but it takes more than just one promo and a title change. That era had The Rock, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, masked Kane and numerous others to help lead the way. They brought with them their own personal attitudes to attribute to the brand. They did things nobody has ever seen before.
Sledgehammers, beer baths, crucifixions, inferno matches—the list can go on. These are the types of things that the Attitude brought into the fan's mindset while watching professional wrestling.
Now, blood is almost forbidden to be seen on the show, beer is only used for promotional considerations and special reappearances by Austin and inferno matches are all but instinct.
There use to be a thrill involved with rivalries. Feuds would last for longer than one month and the fans were okay with that because that meant they were in for a treat at some point in time. Steel cage matches, hell in a cell and elimination chamber style were used to settle some type of score. They were special treats that you never knew ahead of time were going to happen. Now, they all have their own pay per view to give away the thrill of the unexpected.
Many of these issues can be attributed to that of the PG rating, a rating many of us have been screaming to end all together. Problem with that is, with the direction the company is going with and their every expanding willingness to put on a family friendly show, that change is not going to happen any time soon.
However edgy and self sufficient Punk has been lately in trying to be the advocate for change, that change is not going to happen over night. He'll be lucky if it happens at all. Punk's attempts to direct that change cannot happen while he's the only one looking for it. He has to have back up.
I'm not really sure where this whole conspiracy theory angle is going, but I have a gut feeling that it is not going to change anything that Punk wants. In order for anything to change, first the company has to want to change. He has to have back up in his plans and not be the only person looking to go different from the status quo in the company.
He needs help. Saving the company comes at a price, and right now Punk is the only one willing to pay that price. Until somebody else ponies up the balls, change is not going to happen anytime soon.
