WWE: 4 Ways Mark Henry Is a More Effective Heel Than Brock Lesnar Was

Tom ClarkJun 7, 2018

Mark Henry has been on a tear for so long now, it's almost impossible to remember the days when he couldn't buy a win in WWE.

The World's Strongest Man has finally gotten his due, and as the most dominant World Champion in the business today, Mark is in a league all his own.

When fans look at Mark, they see a monster, a man who gives no mercy, and who stops at nothing when it comes to wreaking havoc on every WWE superstar that gets in his way.

Sound familiar?

When Brock Lesnar was known as The Next Big Thing, he was virtually unstoppable, a force of nature that took the business by storm.

His 2002 debut was one for the ages; he was a fresh face with unnatural strength and a mean streak that was unequaled in WWE.

A lot of fans have compared Mark's current run with that of Brock's 2002 run, and I have to say, I do see the similarities.

But for me, Mark actually surpasses Brock in four very important ways.

4. His Look

Brock was an unstoppable bruiser whose strength in the ring defied understanding.

He also looked like a big, dumb corn-fed farm boy.

Hoping that Lesnar does not show up at my front door seeking to rip me in half, I cautiously submit that while most fans seemed to not mind that duh-huh expression that he often had, I for one could just not get past it.

When I look into Mark Henry's eyes, however, I get something very different.

Mark has an intensity, and there is an obvious rage simmering just beneath the surface.  Mark could just look at someone, and psych them out.

If Mark could not talk all that well, the fact is, it would not matter.  Every time he stares down an opponent, and you get a glimpse of that intensity, you know that nothing need be said.

3. His Style

Brock was a great worker.  An amateur champion who brought his skill and talents to the business, Brock will go down as one of the most technically well rounded performers of all time.

But, if there is any downside to a big man who is technically proficient, in my mind, it's the fact that he can be matched, and at times, out-wrestled.

Kurt Angle, and Eddie Guerrero, also both great workers, were able to go move for move with Brock, making for some fantastic bouts.  Those matches were true examples of pro wrestling at its finest.

But, who can match Mark Henry?  Is it possible to go move for move with a guy Henry's size and strength?

Mark is so big, and so powerful, it's downright scary.  Unless a worker is the size of Kane, or Big Show, there is no "wrestling" Henry.

There is only trying to survive.

2. 15 Years of Paying His Dues

Unless you followed amateur wrestling, or had been keeping tabs online, chances are, you didn't know who Brock Lesnar was when he showed up in WWE.

He came in near the top, and was elevated there in virtually no time.  Brock was an unproven commodity.

Mark Henry, on the other hand, has been around for a while now.  We all know what he is capable of. We have seen him at his lowest point, and we now see him at his highest.

He is a guy who has it figured out.  By being in the game for as long as he has, he is in a better position to succeed, because he has seen it all.

He does not play the games that some other heels play, and does not get fooled easily.  At this point, there is not much that an opponent can do, that Mark has not seen before.

Mark's dominance stems from 15 years of trial and error, from learning what it takes to win.  When he takes the mic and growls into the camera, there is little doubting that he can back up what he says.

Mark Henry is the devil we know.  And, that is why he is all the more scary and dominant.

1. His Personality

4 of 4

Brock Lesnar was all about being the best.

He wanted to be WWE Champion, he wanted to be at the top of the company.  Everything he did, and every man he worked, was another step up the ladder.  He was intentionally trying to climb his way up until he was the big dog of the company.

Mark Henry just wants to hurt somebody.

Think about that.  Here's Henry, a dominant heel in every way, a guy that crushes every opponent placed in front of him.  He should have been focused on winning the World Title from the moment that his current monster heel run began.

Instead, he was all about destruction.  Titles, prestige, none of that meant anything.  He lives to punish, to exert his force over everyone in WWE.

Mark faced Randy Orton because there was no other main event faces left for him to destroy.  He took the World Title because he could.

That is scary dominance.
