WWE: 15 Most Guarantee-Happy Superstars of All-Time
Guarantees and cocky athletes go hand-in-hand with any sport.
If pro wrestling is the sport in question, there are definitely guarantees flying around. A bunch of grown men in tights constantly are walking around preaching how much better they are than everyone else.
Guarantees of title-wins are commonplace. Talking about how it is someone's time to shine is about as regular as a headlock.
Muhammad Ali always called himself the greatest, but did he ever refer to himself as "The King of Kings" like Triple H did?
Joe Namath's guarantee for victory in Super Bowl III is legendary, but will CM Punk's guarantee of winning the WWE Championship at this year's Money in the Bank grow with similar tall tales?
For every great or infamous guarantee, there is a wrestling parallel that can be made. Even if nearly every wrestler has delivered a guarantee or two, here is a list of 15 of history's greatest guarantors in the wrestling world.
15. Ted DiBiase
1 of 15The Million Dollar Man is known all over the world for being one of the most despised heels in wrestling history.
He would tout that every person had a price to make them do anything.
DiBiase was always right, as he threw money around over the years to grow factions, gain victories and even create championships.
This isn't even including the money he offered fans for impossible feats, essentially putting his money where his mouth was.
Money may be what defines DiBiase, but it was his mouth that made him so great at what he did.
14. Chris Jericho
2 of 15Regardless of his status as a face or a heel, Chris Jericho was constantly guaranteeing his skill to other people.
Upon his debut in WWE, he explained how he was "saving us" and called himself "The Ayatollah of Rock And Rollah," which I am still trying to figure out.
In his later years, he would come to refer to himself as "The Human Highlight Reel" and become more and more self-centered.
After a hiatus in his career, Jericho returned with a new haircut and an attitude that was slightly dialed down. That didn't last long.
Eventually, Jericho would turn heel in his second stint with WWE, stating that he was the best in the world at what he did and wore suits around everywhere.
13. Bret Hart
3 of 15Bret Hart was always rather modest with his fans.
He wouldn't really talk down to fans and would give his glasses to a young kid before every match.
However, he was still a wrestler and still needed to assert his dominance.
Hart's main tag line is that he is "The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be".
Not only did Hart feel so threatened by his current competitor, but he had to brag about how nobody before him were as good and that the future will never produce a superior wrestler.
That statement is debatable, even if Hart's greatness is not. It isn't much for Hart to be called out on, but it is about as much as you can brag with one single statement.
12. Edge
4 of 15The Rated-R Superstar had a lot to be proud of for his career.
The accomplishments of Edge read about as long as anyone else in wrestling history.
Edge has always been a superstar to talk about how he will win a big-time match, which he often did.
Edge is The Ultimate Opportunist for a reason and has won matches in pretty much any way possible.
He will go into the Hall of Fame one day for his accomplishments in the ring, but his guarantees are memorable and accurate enough to get him on this list.
11. Rick Rude
5 of 15"Ravishing" Rick Rude always had a slightly cocky attitude.
Rude would come to the ring and talk about his body. He would invite women into the ring before matches. He would state that the women wanted him and that the men wanted to be him.
Then there was his ring attire. From having airbrushed pictures of his own face to images of championships, anything was possible to pop up around his crotch.
Rude was just what his name suggests to his opponents and to many fans, but he did often back it up.
10. CM Punk
6 of 15Punk has always been a very grounded superstar.
In recent years, his mic skills have really been shown off. It is very difficult to look back and find something that CM Punk has said that wouldn't be perceived as something his real-life persona would say and mean.
Punk is almost like the Abraham Lincoln of the WWE, because he has always been honest and has often been deemed controversial for saying what we are usually already thinking.
Punk told us all that he would win at Money in the Bank in his hometown of Chicago—which he did.
He has also said in recent months that he is the best in the world—which is difficult to argue with.
Not only has he been the more confident star in the present day, but he is also more likely to guarantee something and probably be right about it.
9. Randy Savage
7 of 15The Macho Man lived a full and very fun life.
His in-ring career is filled with memorable moments and quotes that have entertained generations of fans.
Many analogies have been used by Savage himself to express how great he is.
My favorite of them all was when he used a coffee creamer, spoke for a few minutes, and eventually got to the famous line of "The cream always rises to the top."
Savage always had a persona that was ready to speak before and after he was ready to fight. His career may not be as illustrious as others, but he was larger than life, and when he spoke, we all listened.
8. The Miz
8 of 15The Miz didn't start out as many people's favorite superstar, but he often became such.
Miz once professed that he was a "Chick Magnet," which didn't garner many fans. Fans wanted Miz to go home and get out of WWE.
He then changed his attitude a bit and told us all that he was "awesome," which sounded better.
He swore a while back that he was a future world champion—which he would become.
He swore he would beat John Cena at WrestleMania—which he did.
I know that his fired storyline is fake, but get this man back into the ring so he can make more promises.
7. John Bradshaw Layfield
9 of 15JBL was often known as Blackjack Bradshaw or simply Bradshaw for most of his career.
He was remembered mostly for his teaming with Faarooq in The Acoltyes.
They would usually be more concerned with making money and drinking beer than pretty much anything else.
JBL would change his attitude and his fortunes when he dropped that gimmick in favor of a more money-hungry and selfish gimmick based off of his real life.
He used his real name, dressed like he usually did when he was a stock market analyst, and proclaimed how great of a wrestler and how great of an American he was.
He would even describe himself to being a "Wrestling God." It's hard to back statements like those up, but he certainly tried.
6. Ultimate Warrior
10 of 15I can go on and on for days about all of the guarantees that The Ultimate Warrior made over the years.
Unfortunately, he was usually so excited and amped up that I could barely understand what the promises were.
Warrior is remembered for being one of the most energetic superstars of all time.
Whatever he was talking about, I'm pretty sure he went out there and did it. At least let's hope he did.
His yelling did kind of frighten some of us at times.
5. Alberto Del Rio
11 of 15This former WWE Champion has walked around since his debut last year, stating that he was more honest than everyone else and that it was his destiny to be great.
The word "destiny" is often said by him, and it is hard to get through one of his promos without expecting the word to pop up.
Del Rio fulfilled his destiny at SummerSlam, becoming WWE Champion.
I don't exactly know how a five-week title reign fit into that talk of destiny, but his destiny may change yet again at Hell In A Cell, especially with a tour through Mexico scheduled right after.
4. Hulk Hogan
12 of 15Hogan was one of the most beloved wrestling stars in history and is still remembered for some of his over-the-top statements.
It usually revolved around some crazy story he would tell about and then ask about what his opponents would do when "Hulkamania runs wild on you."
I still don't quite know what Hulkamania is or was, but it seemed to have worked out for him pretty well.
3. Triple H
13 of 15The Game has always had his mouth talk and his ability back it up.
He started his career as a very arrogant man who was better than everyone.
He then told everyone to "Suck It," which a lot of them did.
He was then dubbed "The Game," "The Cerebral Assassin," "The King of Kings" and a whole bunch of other names.
He fits every one of them and is an all-time great today because of it.
2. John Cena
14 of 15Whatever you can say about John Cena, don't call him a liar.
He says "The Champ Is Here," and he has been a 12-time world champion, including his current reign.
He says that he never quits, and he certainly doesn't. His three words of "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" are well represented by him inside the ring and out of it.
You may not enjoy how his promos usually go, but his words are often the truth.
John Cena is among the best ever—whether you like it or not. That all stems from his words.
Let's just be glad he stopped rapping.
1. The Rock
15 of 15Of course The Rock is No. 1 here.
Not only is he The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment, but he didn't just guarantee things. He "guaran-damn-teed" things.
The Rock is beloved by young people and old people alike for his ability, his mic skills, his charisma, his great matches and his unforgettable catch-phrases.
Both he and John Cena claim that they will win at WrestleMania—and one of them will be wrong.
It will be interesting to find out which of the two will come out triumphant.
