WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: 11 Burning Questions Fans Want Answered
Hell in a Cell 2011 is nearly upon us. We haven't had a full chance to anticipate it, since Night of Champions was just two weeks ago. Will WWE give us our money's worth?
Heading into Hell in a Cell, fans have several questions about the current storylines, what direction certain wrestlers will be heading and whether we'll see the same old, same old.
The following questions cover every title match, as well as matches that may or may not happen.
Will Henry Get a Chance to Have a Decent Reign?
1 of 11In recent years, we haven't had any Bruno Sammartino-type championship reigns. It seems like in every pay-per-view, about half of the titles change hands.
Mark Henry's recent run of demolishing opponents and announcers has given him an air of invincibility. If John Cena is booked elsewhere, and Hulk Hogan is not walking through that door, will WWE allow the World's Strongest Man to savor his championship reign?
There are two major reasons why I don't think Randy Orton is taking back the World Heavyweight Championship, at least not at Hell in a Cell.
The recent incident where he split open Cody Rhodes' head with a ring bell has many wondering if he’ll be punished. Orton sits so high atop the WWE hierarchy, that his punishment will probably be a stiff warning.
Putting the belt right back on him after a PG-era no-no doesn’t seem that likely.
Secondly, Rhodes and Orton may be involved in a longer feud in the weeks to come. Their chemistry is good, and pitting the former Legacy allies against each other for longer helps continue Rhodes’ push into the spotlight.
Is Kelly Kelly Finally Going to Lose the Title?
2 of 11What direction is WWE going with the Divas division? It appeared as if Beth Phoenix would take the Divas title at SummerSlam and Night of Champions.
Or maybe that was just wishful thinking from a fan tired of the Barbie doll-like wrestling entities, known as the Divas.
Has this been a long tease? Either Phoenix finally breaks through, or this whole feud has been a means to make Kelly Kelly more legitimate.
This week's Raw featured a series of clips about how great she was. Did they show us that as a gesture of farewell to her title reign?
More likely, it was shown to convince us that she’s the Diva we want to see, night in and night out.
Is Christian on His Way Back to Main Event Status?
3 of 11Christian had a brief taste of gold this year. Is WWE planning on giving him "one more match," or will he slip back towards the pack?
He certainly has his share of fans, but there’s only so much room on the top. History has shown that McMahon prefers ripped, comic book hero-looking guys to stay on top.
His opponent, Sheamus, may be the one to climb back into the main event picture first.
Towards the end of Raw, Christian sat around with David Otunga, Dolph Ziggler and others contemplating how to get back at Triple H. If he is involved in that storyline for the foreseeable future, he may get lost in the shuffle.
It may be a busy angle with too many bodies.
With Sheamus on such a roll lately, gaining popularity, I don't know if WWE will have him lose here. To the chagrin of Captain Charisma fans, Christian may be settling right back into the mid-card.
How Will R-Truth and Miz Make an Impact?
4 of 11The last time someone was fired before a pay-per-view, he interrupted the main event. Though The Awesome Truth have little to gain from repeating that performance, chances are, the duo will do something in response to being fired.
If Air Boom are booked to defend its title, that could be Miz and Truth's chance to come in and kick some tail. But, more likely, is that they try to exact revenge on Triple H.
Fans will be waiting to see when, where and how they put their stamp on Hell in a Cell.
Both men are stars too big to miss out on the spotlight entirely.
Will Del Rio Live Up to His Potential?
5 of 11Despite winning the Royal Rumble and the Money in the Bank ladder match, Del Rio is not given a ton of respect by most WWE fans.
A lot of blame can be put on WWE for pushing too fast. Sure, the hardcore fans know that he is Mexican wrestling royalty, being the son of Dos Caras and the nephew of Mil Mascaras.
But, the majority of the audience knows very little about him.
Poor booking at Night of Champions disintegrated all the credibility he’d built up to that point. It's highly unlikely that he'll win at Hell in a Cell, but chances are, he’ll have a good showing.
Being in the ring with a pro like CM Punk, and the Hell in a Cell itself likely coming into play, certainly ups the chances for a great match.
It's a great opportunity for Del Rio to show his more devious and destructive side.
How Will the Hell in a Cell Itself Be Used?
6 of 11We're never going to see what happened with Mankind again. McMahon doesn't want his superstars to die.
Even with a PG rating, WWE always tries to find new ways to utilize the Hell in a Cell cage.
Last year, Paul Bearer slipped inside towards the end of Kane and Undertaker's match. The Orton vs. Sheamus matchup barely used the cage, opting instead to make it a ring step-heavy affair.
Without tossing someone off the top, there are still some new options for how to use the Cell. Edge and Undertaker crashing through the walls of the structure was particularly memorable.
Done right, the Hell in a Cell can be used to make Mark Henry look more demented than he already has.
It’ll be interesting to see if WWE embraces the violence of the structure or shies away from it.
Will Daniel Bryan Cash in His Money in the Bank Contract?
7 of 11Fans may start to forget that Daniel Bryan has a Money in the Bank contract in hand. He's been mired lately in a feud with Sin Cara, but mostly so that the two Sin Caras have a chance to go at each other.
I don't see him cashing in on the Cena/Punk/Del Rio match. He has little history with any of those guys, and as highly as many fans think of Bryan, I doubt McMahon sees him on the same playing field as Punk and Cena.
Challenging Mark Henry, even after a brutal Hell in a Cell match, wouldn't be a smart move. Bryan would have a tough time getting a good hold of Henry to lock in his submission holds.
But, if Orton wins, he'll likely be in terrible shape and Bryan has a more realistic chance of beating the Viper. Of course, that's not taking into consideration Orton’s position in the company.
I don't see him lying down in order to put Bryan over.
But, if WWE continues to wait to have Bryan cash in, the angle loses momentum.
What Other Matches Will Be Booked?
8 of 11So far, the two world titles will be defended. Christian faces Sheamus, and Kelly Kelly will "wrestle" Beth Phoenix.
That leaves a lot of talent yet to be displayed.
Cody Rhodes would probably face Ted DiBiase again, though they certainly haven't put much energy into that feud. Air Boom seems to have a recent beef with Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler, so that’s a possibility.
And deserving or not, some fans have been clamoring for more Zack Ryder. Might we see a hurried match with him?
Whatever they go with, it will have little time to be built up.
Will There Be Any Surprise Appearances?
9 of 11It'd be a perfect event to have Kane or Undertaker make a cameo, but neither is likely.
Kane is injured, and the Undertaker may not show up until WrestleMania.
Rumors are circulating about Chris Jericho and Mick Foley coming back. This isn't a big enough event for Jericho’s return. How perfect would it be to have Foley come back at Hell in a Cell, the match that cemented his legacy?
Most of these are pipe dreams. There aren't any current storylines for them to jump into.
Might we see Booker T instead? If he is announcing, I have a feeling Mark Henry will repeat what he did to Jerry Lawler.
Will Triple H Be Involved?
10 of 11The focus has shifted from CM Punk ushering in a new era, to the chaos of Triple H's COO reign. Though I'm disappointed to see Punk’s angle fizzle out, I think this current storyline has big potential.
A crumbling empire plot could be engrossing.
With all the time they've been giving the Triple H as COO angle, you know they'll have to squeeze him into the pay-per-view somehow.
Will he get attacked by a gang of angry superstars? Will there be a takeover of some sort?
Likely, Hell in a Cell will not see the culmination of this angle, but something to further it. You have to believe that The Miz and R-Truth will be a part of whatever happens.
Is John Cena Going to Be Booked as Super Again?
11 of 11I'd be fine if Cena wins his Triple Threat match, though I'd much rather see Punk hold onto the title for a long while.
WWE fans are no stranger to a pay-per-view ending with a Cena victory, but it'd be a shame if he is made to look like Superman during the match.
I can already see it now. Cena gets beaten down for much of the night, things look dire and he hulks up and starts throwing Attitude Adjustments all over the place.
This would be a lazy approach that could ruin the event.
