Kenny Britt Injury: Which Waiver Wire Replacements Should You Add Immediately?

Andrea HangstSep 26, 2011

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt is likely done for the season, with reports surfacing that he injured both his right ACL and MCL in the Titans' 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Britt was on pace to have a major year after breaking out in 2010, and he immediately became a highly-coveted elite fantasy receiver as well.

With Britt gone, fantasy GMs are scrambling for a replacement. Luckily, this is a few degrees less difficult than if you lost a running back for the season; wide receivers break out and distinguish themselves every week.

Here are a few you should consider grabbing if you need to fill Britt's roster spot on your team.

Nate Washington, Tennessee Titans

Obviously, the first receiver you should consider is Britt's No. 2, Nate Washington. Washington has shined with the Titans when given the opportunity this season, with 21 catches for 258 yards and a touchdown through three weeks.

Washington will likely take over Britt's receiving duties and will serve as quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's primary target from here on out. While this is good news, buyer beware: There is a good chance that Washington's success had much to do with Britt being double covered.

Without Britt on the field, Washington might be held back; taking over Britt's role has more associated with it than just catching passes. But Hasselbeck has looked good so far for the Titans, and their running game is still getting on track.

With that in mind, Washington should be on the top of the list as Britt's replacement on your team.

Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

Raiders wide receiver Denarius Moore has made quite a name for himself over the last two weeks, and this week is likely your last chance to add him to your roster. He's shot up the waiver wire as a must-have, even for GMs who haven't lost a talent like Britt to injury.

Every week, Raiders head coach Hue Jackson has touted Moore's performance and promised to increase his time on the field, and for good reason. In three games, he's had nine receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown, and he's also rushed twice for an additional 48 yards and a touchdown.

His major opportunity came as an injury replacement, but he's been sufficiently proficient to become a starter as the weeks progress.

While he's behind fellow receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey in the depth chart, Moore has eclipsed him in production. DHB has been disappointing while in Oakland; don't expect him to start ahead of Moore for long.

Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens

Ravens rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith had an impressive five-catch, 152-yard, three-touchdown performance in Sunday's win over the St. Louis Rams, making him an instant fantasy football must-add.

Smith had yet to start a game for the Ravens, but made quite a case for himself as to why he should be a major target for quarterback Joe Flacco for the rest of the season.

He appears to be a great add at first glance, but I think there is a significant level of risk in adding Smith to your roster as a starter replacement for Britt. It's less of a concern that Smith is a rookie; more of a concern is that he had his impressive performance against a slumping Rams defense.

Smith needs to prove that his dominant showing in Week 3 wasn't just a fluke against a poor team. While I recommend that you add him, do so knowing that he may not produce in the consistent manner you're accustomed to from a go-to receiver like Britt.
