UFC 135 Results: Can Rashad Evans Ruin Jon Jones' Special Night Three Times?
Jon Jones recently defended his UFC Light Heavyweight championship against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 135 marking off the biggest victory of his MMA career.
Instead of rejoicing in his success, Jones felt bothered.
Enter Rashad Evans.
Once great friends, now enemies, Jones and Evans have shared their fair share of conflict along the way.
Jones was declared the UFC Light Heavyweight champion after defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128 via technical knockout at 2:37 of the 3rd round.
It was then, the biggest victory Jones' young career as he became the youngest champion in UFC history at the age of 23.
Jones didn't have time to celebrate his victory as Evans entered the Octagon seconds after his hand was raised the victor.
Evans confronted Jones in regards to a non-booked future bout between the two.
Then, after Jones' submission victory over Jackson in Denver, Colorado, Evans once again stole the show in attempts to promote the possibility of a future bout between the two.
In regards to Evans actions, Jones stated the following:
“I’m sure he’s got a lot to say,” Jones said of Evans after beating Quinton Jackson. “He’s going to be doing a lot of talking. I’m not going to say anything, I promise you guys. Leading up to this fight I’m not going to say much. I’m just going to prove it."
Jones didn't stop there as he went on to say exactly how he felt about Evans' actions stating:
“He’s ruined my special night twice now and the time will come.”
Indeed, the time will come when the former friends will have to square off inside the Octagon.
The only question that remains is, can Evans ruin Jones' special night a third time?
While Evans has posted an impressive 21-1-1 career record, he hasn't fought anyone the caliber of Jones.
A take down artist himself, Evans feels he has what it takes to defeat Jones and get back his UFC Light Heavyweight championship.
The only problem for Evans, Jones has emerged as arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC being a threat in nearly every aspect of the sport.
A mastermind in the stand up, ground, and clinch, Jones may be too much for Evans to handle.
Despite feeling worthy, Evans lacks the striking, kicking, and submission skills of Jones.
Jones' has proven time and time again that he is the best fighter in the Light Heavyweight division.
And, while Evans may have ruined his special night twice, it won't happen a third time.
