WWE Hell in a Cell: 7 Additional Matches We Need to See on Oct. 2

Drake OzSep 26, 2011

WWE Night of Champions took place only eight days ago, but this is the WWE we’re taking about—the company has pay-per-views galore.

There are only 14 days between NOC and the next pay-per-view, Hell in a Cell, which takes place this Sunday night from New Orleans.

Only two matches have been announced for the show so far: Randy Orton will use his rematch clause to attempt to regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Mark Henry, and John Cena will defend his WWE Championship against Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk in the first-ever Triple Threat Hell in a Cell match.

Those will likely be the only two bouts that actually take place inside the dangerous steel structure, but we should see several additional matches added to the card.

So, what are they? We don’t know yet, but here are seven potential matchups we’d love to see take place this Sunday.

7. Divas Championship: Natalya vs. Kelly Kelly

1 of 7

One half of the Divas of Doom, Beth Phoenix, has already had two opportunities at Kelly Kelly’s Divas Championship, and much to the chagrin of many wrestling fans, she failed both times.

So, perhaps it’s time to have Beth’s running mate, Natalya, attempt to do what Beth couldn’t do: Beat Kelly Kelly.

There are any number of ways Natalya can go about becoming No. 1 contender on this week’s Raw, but all that matters is that she indeed is next in line for Kelly Kelly’s Divas Championship.

She’s obviously already involved in the feud with Kelly Kelly, and she—along with Beth—is one of the top two women’s wrestlers in the WWE. Kelly Kelly still needs to be carried in the ring at this point, so someone like Natalya would be able to do that.

If anything, we want to see Kelly Kelly vs. Natalya because of the slim chance that Kelly Kelly loses the Divas title to someone who’s a much better wrestler.

6. WWE Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne vs. the Usos

2 of 7

Did you watch the match between these two teams on last Friday’s episode of Smackdown?

Yeah, it only got a total of about three minutes, but you could tell even in that short span that Air Boom and the Usos could put on a very good tag team match if given ten or more minutes to shine.

The Usos have really improved over the last six months or so, and Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne have had great chemistry from the get-go. What they don’t have at the moment—especially now that R-Truth and The Miz have been “fired”—is a team to feud with for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

I see no better option than Jimmy and Jey Uso.

Given that they’re twin brothers, they’re the most legitimate tag team in the WWE. Put them in a feud against another quality team, and you’re on the right track.

5. Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase

3 of 7

Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase battled for the Intercontinental Championship at Night of Champions, and it was pretty clear that these two guys have a ton of chemistry.

They started out together in Legacy, paired up once again when DiBiase served as Rhodes’ “protégé” and are now entangled in a feud that’s helped DiBiase turn face.

Though Rhodes defeated DiBiase in their match just two weeks ago, I think we’ll see more from these two for the foreseeable future. It would make perfect sense for them to have a lengthy rivalry that sees DiBiase eventually winning the Intercontinental title.

That way, Rhodes can move up to his rightful spot in Smackdown’s main event scene, and DiBiase can continue to develop his character in the blue brand’s mid-card.

4. Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara

4 of 7

Will the real Sin Cara please stand up?

By now, we all know what’s going on with the “two Sin Caras” that have been appearing on Raw and Smackdown lately: The impostor/heel Sin Cara is the taller of the two, and he stole the real Sin Cara’s—the smaller, face one—gimmick while he was away on suspension.

Now, they’re presumably headed for a huge rivalry, one that I think would do wonders for both guys.

Since the impostor Sin Cara (played by WWE developmental wrestler Hunico) is relatively new to the main roster and the real Sin Cara (a.k.a. Mistico) is still adjusting to the WWE style, it will benefit both of them to work together as they learn the ropes.

Their lucha libre styles mesh pretty well, and they should be able to put on some very good, entertaining matches if this feud gets some time.

3. United States Championship: Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder

5 of 7

You asked for Zack Ryder, and you got him.

After fans around the country praised Ryder for his ability to get himself over on the Internet, they begged to see more of him on WWE programming. He appeared here and there for a while, but on Monday’s Raw, he finally made somewhat of an impact with a huge victory over Dolph Ziggler.

The win came with the help of guest star Hugh Jackman, but that’s not all that important. I mean, when’s the last time Ryder got a win on Raw before that?

I have no idea, and I think that Ryder’s big W could be the start of a push for Ziggler’s United States Championship.

Ziggler is above that belt already and should be headed for the main event scene, so putting it on Ryder would be a good move that could get Ziggler to the World title picture and get Ryder even more over on Raw.

Getting the strap on Ryder would be an even better move if it happened at Hell in a Cell.

2. Triple H vs. The Miz and R-Truth

6 of 7

The feud between Triple H and CM Punk appears to be over at the moment, but I’m not so sure that’s the case.

You just don’t rush a Wrestlemania-worthy rivalry without having some sort of huge payoff at the end, and I think that’s precisely what we’ll see with Punk vs. Triple H. In the meantime, however, Triple H now finds himself embroiled in a fierce feud with The Miz and R-Truth after “firing” them on Monday’s Raw.

Does anyone actually believe those firings were legitimate? I sure hope not.

Just like every other “firing” in recent WWE history, Miz and Truth will be back, and they’ll be gunning for Triple H. So, I could see those two battling The Game at Hell in a Cell in order to gain their jobs back.

The only worry I have about this is whether or not Triple H would be willing to put not, but two people over in one night.

1. Sheamus vs. Christian

7 of 7

I absolutely love what the WWE is doing with Christian and Sheamus right now.

Christian is the brand’s No. 2 heel at the moment (behind Mark Henry), and Sheamus is its No. 2 face (behind Randy Orton, obviously), so putting them in a feud with each other is the logical thing to do.

The Celtic Warrior is being booked like the honorable baby face, and Captain Charisma is being portrayed as the chickens**t heel who wants nothing to do with said baby face.

Ah, a match made in heaven.

Both Christian and Sheamus have really excelled in Smackdown’s main event scene since the beginning of the summer, even carrying it at some points.

They deserve to be rewarded with a lengthy pay-per-view match, and the sooner it happens, the better.
