UFC 135: Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson Breakdown and Analysis
When UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones takes on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado, the war of words will become an epic battle in the ring.
While Rampage Jackson has been known to use his words as weapons before a fight, Jones has come off to most fans as a very humble young man and a superior fighter. This pre-fight hype has been different, though, and Jones has really defended himself and even attacked back at Jackson.
Most MMA fans and experts love to see Jones start to show more swagger in the way he handles cocky opponents, but veteran Rampage Jackson feels that Jones should be showing him far more respect than he has during this process.
Jackson told the Vancouver Sun about his lack of respect for Bones Jones:
"I just like people to be real all the time and don’t try to put on a front. When the first interviews for this fight came out, he says he’s so humble and all this stuff. Then you really meet him and he seems so cocky. He was saying stuff he shouldn’t be saying to a veteran fighter like me. The guy has never walked the way I’ve walked in this sport. Basically, he said the wrong (expletive). And I treat him the way I treat him because I’ve got no respect for him.
"
The biggest accusation from Rampage has been that Jones is so concerned with Jackson’s style and power that he had a spy infiltrate the Rampage camp and report back with all of the things he observes.
These are heavy accusations from Jackson, but finding the truth in the matter has been harder than finding Sasquatch. Whether it’s true or not, the accusations have raised many questions and distracted Jones enough to raise questions about his mindset.
It is impossible to tell if all of the talk outside the ring will affect the 24-year-old Bones Jones, but Rampage will not rest with the psychological warfare until the referee gives the fight signal.
Rampage Jackson took to twitter to further talk about the fact that one of the members of his camp was indeed working for Jones as a spy:
While Jones has claimed to remain unshaken by the allegations, there have been so many questions about the young man’s integrity that he has to be more on edge than ever before.
There is no good way to prepare for the mental battle that Rampage brings to the table, but Jones seems to be putting his heart and mind in the place he feels most comfortable leaving it.
Jon Jones thanked God on Twitter for the victory he feels he will obtain later tonight:
This was one of the most intense war of words in a long time, and the hope is that the hatred both men feel towards each other translates into a battle for the ages in the octagon.
While Rampage is one of the greatest strikers to ever fight in UFC, Jones is too young, too fast and too strong to succumb to the attack of Jackson.
