Fantasy Football Week 3: Which Players Are Guaranteed to Disappoint?

John RozumJun 7, 2018

It's a major bummer when it happens, but there are always players in your starting lineup that end up disappointing.

Some were projected more than others, but in the end, their performance was frustrating at best.

That said, here are three players guaranteed to disappoint in Week 3.

Eli Manning: QB, New York Giants

This week, Eli and the Giants travel to Philadelphia and play the Eagles in a key early-season NFC East matchup.

This week, however, will be the best defense that Manning has faced thus far in 2011 (Washington was solid, but they're a step back of Philly), and the disappointments will continue.

After only two weeks, he's been sacked seven times and thrown only two TDs with two picks, and the Giants rank No. 22 in passing offense.

Now combine that with WR Dominek Hixon being out and Mario Manningham not being 100 percent and the addition of Patrick Crayton doesn't appear to be of any significance.

If Eli is to produce, the ground game needs to be a bit more effective, but the Eagles are hungry after a dramatic loss in Atlanta last week.

Jay Cutler: QB, Chicago Bears

Yes, the Green Bay Packers' pass defense hasn't been its normal self through two weeks this season.

However, Bears QB Jay Cutler continues to be inconsistent after solid play in Week 1; he only completed 19 passes on 45 attempts for 244 yards against the New Orleans Saints.

And that was a defense that got split like an atom from Aaron Rodgers.

Also, it doesn't help that in three games versus the Packers in 2010, Cutler threw only one TD pass to four picks, with an average of 156.3 yards per game.

If the Chicago Bears are to win this game, it's imperative that Cutler play well.

However, until he proves otherwise against Green Bay, he's guaranteed to disappoint.

Brandon Marshall: WR, Miami Dolphins

Although Marshall has played pretty well thus far (13 catches, 218 yards, one TD), the Cleveland Browns have some momentum rolling after winning in Week 2.

In order to slow down the Miami offense, expect the Browns to double-team Brandon every chance they get, as he is the Dolphins' best offensive weapon.

To that end, the Browns' front seven will be doing a lot of blitzing to get pressure on Chad Henne as well as to slow down their rushing offense.

And when Cleveland has the ball, anticipate a heavy dose of RB Peyton Hillis to keep the explosive Miami offense off the field, hence, from getting into rhythm.

It's not so much that Marshall doesn't have the ability to dominate the Browns' defense as it is Cleveland limiting his opportunities.

You can't make plays when the opposing offense is on the field twice as much.

And since Cleveland doesn't have nearly the offensive weapons like the Pats or Texans, using Madden '12 cover athlete and Brahma Bull Peyton Hillis is their best option.
