Alabama Football: 3 Reasons Why Philip Sims Isn't the Future at QB for the Tide
The Alabama Crimson Tide have been buzzing about quarterback Phillip Sims since he first stepped on campus. He was rated the No. 2 quarterback in the country by both Scout.com and Rivals.com, and was rated the 67th best player overall by Rivals.com.
He is a freshman this season and the hopes were high, but after a few disappointing performances, he is riding the bench and watching AJ McCarron lead this team. It may be that way for a while.
Here are a few reasons why Phillip Sims is not the future of this Alabama team.

AJ McCarron Is the Better Quarterback
1 of 3AJ McCarron is currently the starter for this Crimson Tide team and for good reason, since he has proved he is the better quarterback.
Sure, he threw two interceptions in his debut against Kent State, but he also threw for a touchdown and completed 60 percent of his passes. Since Week 1, he hasn't thrown a interception, and with every game that goes, by his completion percentage goes up and he shows more leadership.
Unfortunately for Sims, McCarron is only a sophomore and could be on this team for another two years. If he continues to grow and develop, he could also be a starter for those years as well.
Strong Recruiting Class
2 of 3Not only does Sims have to worry about McCarron having the starting spot for a while, he also needs to pay attention to quarterback Morgan Ogilvie.
Ogilvie is a freshman quarterback who, in his senior season, threw for 16 touchdowns and close to 1,800 yards passing while missing five games due to leg surgery. He has a strong arm and will provide Sims some competition once he gets used to the offense.
You also can't forget about quarterbacks like Phillip Morris and Alec Morris.
Alec Morris is the recruit that Crimson Tide fans should be most excited about since he is a dual-threat quarterback. He provides toughness and is not afraid to lower his shoulder to pick up a first down. His senior season in high school, he passed for over 2,500 yards, had 32 total touchdowns and completed 63 percent of his passes.
The competition will always be there for Phillip Sims.
If He Wasn't the Starter This Season, He'll Never Be
3 of 3It didn't take Nick Saban and company long to decide who their starting quarterback was. It was an open competition until Sims decided to stink it up.
I know he is only a freshman and has time to develop, but who's to say the other younger guys can't win the competition next season over Sims?
So far, he hasn't shown much and is looking overrated as each week goes on. His 59 percent completion percentage isn't going to get it done, and if he threw two interceptions against Kent State, how will he perform against teams in the SEC?
I understand he has potential, but so do the other quarterbacks on the depth chart. He had his chance to become the starter this season and didn't come through.
As of right now, he does not look like the future of this Alabama team.
