UFC 135: Rampage's Greatest Hits

Petar AlavanjaSep 22, 2011

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson is one of the most successful and entertaining mixed martial artists of all time. Whether slamming people into oblivion in Pride, or knocking out living legends in the UFC, or his antics during interviews, Jackson has always been good value for money.

This weekend at UFC 135 he will get his second shot at becoming the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion against the heavily favored Jon "Bones" Jones. In anticipation of this blockbuster clash, here are some of the best moments of Jackson's career so far.

"Rampage's" Pride Debut

1 of 7

"Rampage" made his Pride FC debut in 2001 at the Pride 15 event against Kazushi Sakuraba. At the time of the fight Jackson was 10-1 in his MMA career, but still somewhat of an unknown commodity, while Sakuraba was the hero of Japanese MMA.

Although he was submitted in the first round, his performance opened a lot of eyes in the MMA world. Couldn't find a video of this so here is Jackson rapping for your entertainment.

Defeating Chuck Liddell in Pride

2 of 7

In 2003, UFC star Chuck Liddell entered the Pride Final Conflict tournament with the goal of facing champion Wanderlei Silva. Unfortunately for Liddell and Dana White, Jackson put an end to these plans by defeating Chuck by TKO when his corner threw in the towel three minutes into the second round.

Slam KO of Arona

3 of 7

At Pride Critical Countdown in 2004, "Rampage" faced off with Ricardo Arona with the winner being granted a title shot at then Pride 205-pound champion, Wanderlei Silva. In the first round Arona caught Jackson in a triangle choke, but "Rampage" picked him up and slammed him back down onto the mat and earned the KO when Arona's head bounced off the mat and back into Jackson's. This scene has made countless MMA highlight packages.

Winning the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

4 of 7

After Jackson's debut UFC victory at UFC 67 against Marvin Eastman, he was given a title shot against Chuck Liddell, a man who he had previously defeated. This time around, Jackson won in even more convincing fashion by landing one of the most vicious right hooks ever seen in the UFC and followed it up with a few more shots to win the fight in under two minutes.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a single video of this on YouTube, but it is included in this highlight package.

Unifying 205-Pound Titles

5 of 7

Following Zuffa's acquisition of Pride FC in March of 2007, Quinton Jackson was set to face Pride 205-pound champion, Dan Henderson, in a title unification match. At UFC 75 the two heavy hitters faced off in an exciting bout which went to the judges' scorecards. Despite "Rampage" almost finishing the hard headed Henderson, Jackson was awarded the unanimous decision to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world.

Revenge on Wanderlei Silva

6 of 7

After losing his title to Forrest Griffin in controversial fashion, Jackson's comeback fight was to be against bitter rival, Wanderlei Silva. Silva had brutally beaten Jackson in their two fights in the Pride organization, but at UFC 92 Jackson gained a measure of revenge by viciously knocking Silva out cold with a left hook and then following up with several shots on the ground.

Conclusion

This weekend at UFC 135 Jones and Rampage are sure to put on a show no matter the outcome. Thanks for reading and here is a classic video of Rampage and a female reporter.
