Wrestling Q&A #3: The Undertaker's WrestleMania Opponent, Jeff Hardy, More

Eric KanesJun 1, 2018

What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes and this is the third edition of "Wrestling Q&A." Earlier this week, I asked my Facebook friends to send in some pro wrestling questions. I then chose the best ones and answered them in the video above. Here is a transcript of the questions that I answered:

Do you think that Cody Rhodes can bring some prestige back to the Intercontinental Championship?

Now, my answer to that is absolutely. Cody Rhodes can definitely bring some prestige back to the Intercontinental Championship and, in fact, I'll take it a step further - anybody can bring prestige back to the title and make it relevant again. All it is is a matter of booking. If you have Cody Rhodes defend it at every pay-per-view against every challenger and you have upper-level midcarders like Sheamus and Daniel Bryan challenging for the title, then the prestige goes up. It really is as simple as that. However, will Cody Rhodes bring some prestige back to the championship? I don't think so. It seems like WWE has no clue how to book their midcard champions and it's sad because it really is as simple as I just mentioned. Plus, without developed midcarders, nobody can move up to the main event scene, so the abysmally poor booking of the midcard titles really does not benefit anyone.

Do you think that Jeff Hardy will ever be able to regain the spotlight?

If he comes back to WWE, which seems highly unlikely right now, then sure. However, even if he wins the TNA world championship, TNA is not exactly synonymous with spotlight right now.

Who do you think would be the best opponent for The Undertaker at WrestleMania 28?

I'm glad somebody asked this because at the moment, it seems like three names are always brought up when Undertaker's WrestleMania 28 opponent is mentioned. First we've got John Cena, who would probably be the perfect opponent but he already happens to be booked for a match at WrestleMania. Then, we've got Triple H, who faced The Undertaker just last year. Now, maybe if Triple H is a heel with a Corporation-like stable, this match would be fresh. But with the way he is now, it would pretty much just be a repeat of last yeati-And finally, we've got CM Punk, who has become a mega-star over the past couple of months. Despite that, having him face The Undertaker just would not work. The Undertaker is an over-the-top, larger-than-life character who is supposedly a dead man. Then, you've got CM Punk who pretty much just plays a normal dude who wants change. Therefore, CM Punk vs. The Undertaker would be a terrible idea because #1, they'd really have no reason to feud and #2, if they were to feud, then this would entirely kill the "reality" aspect to CM Punk's character.

So who should face The Undertaker then? I've thought about it and I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone say this one yet. The perfect opponent for The Undertaker is probably "The Viper" Randy Orton. Now, I know that these two have faced off at WrestleMania before but that was over six years ago, and they have not feuded since. Plus, Orton's character has developed a lot more since then. At that time, he was the young, cocky "Legend Killer." Right now, he's already a legend in his own right. He's an 11-time world champion who has pretty much beaten everybody on the current roster. The story could be that the one thing he has left to accomplish is ending The Undertaker's streak. He'd also be a much more credible threat than Triple H or Shawn Michaels because he's still relatively young and at the prime of his career. Plus, he's a really good worker so he would be able to carry The Undertaker, through his injuries.

Now, I've thought about other opponents for The Undertaker but at the moment, Randy Orton definitely seems like the way to go. They could try to build someone like Sheamus up in the next six months, the same way they did with Mark Henry, but looking at where the current roster stands, Randy Orton seems like the best option.
