WWE News: Vince McMahon Enraged After Name Was Mentioned on WWE Raw

Imaan JalaliSep 21, 2011

As those who have been in his presence can probably attest, Vince McMahon lives, breathes and eats WWE. His work ethic is second to none, always overseeing the product as it unfolds live, restlessly communicating with writers, agents and the talent.

Sometimes, however, if something appears to go wrong—or at least if Vince McMahon perceives it that way—communication with him takes a different turn, taking on a much more austere meaning. He won't be afraid to let loose on those in his way, fast-balling diatribes and rebuking those responsible for transgressing.

This description sounds eerily familiar to his alter ego, "Mr. McMahon," who not only performs in front of the cameras but reputedly in real life as well.

Just as it happens, according to Prowrestling.net, "Mr. McMahon" indeed made a return when the cameras weren't rolling, performing in front of an audience much smaller than ones he's usually accustomed to.

In a backstage segment, between Alberto Del Rio and Triple H, the former made a comment to the latter about "praying for Mr. McMahon's return." Allegedly, McMahon was out of the loop regarding the utterance of that line, and thus made his displeasure known in plain view by scolding both Del Rio and the creative writer responsible for the segment.

Even his daughter Stephanie McMahon is noted in the report as having tried to calm him down but to no avail. Nonetheless, Vince McMahon stayed in a surly mood, negatively affecting others around him for the duration of the broadcast.

Certainly, one can deductively attribute McMahon's outburst to the very real possibility that he is set to return to WWE TV soon and therefore did not want it to be alluded to so as to not ruin the surprise.

Nonetheless, this backstage event speaks more to the whole of WWE's hierarchy and organizational framework than the actual incident itself. If McMahon functions as the oversight of WWE creative affairs, then there is no reason why he should have not been privy to Alberto Del Rio's dialogue.

Conversely, others may argue that McMahon's over-insistence on micromanaging every detail is the real problem—and simply counterproductive to WWE's creative paradigm. The writers, never mind the wrestlers, are inhibited from making unimpeded decisions without McMahon lurking over their backs. An environment promoting the free-flowing of ideas, existing within a connective corporate culture, would be conducive to the best storylines that make the most sense.
