Jon "Bones" Jones’ Keys to Victory
Besides experience, Jones has every important advantage in this championship bout; including height, reach and speed. While Jones' advantages are very important, this fight will end up being a battle on the ground. Jones needs to be sharp with his submissions.
If Jackson takes down Jones, there is a good chance that Bones could use Rampage’s momentum against him and use a submission to end the fight early. No matter how the fight goes, this will be the toughest fight in Jones' young life.
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson’s Keys to Victory
Rampage Jackson is a fighter who loves to use his hands to beat people down. Whether he is standing with his opponent or taking him down for a ground-and-pound scenario, his best chance for winning a fight lies within the power and skills of his fists.
If Jackson can meet Jones with a barrage of fists for the entire fight, he will have the champion on his heels (and possibly out cold) if he lands one of his power shots.
What They're Saying
Jones told the Vancouver Sun that he pressures himself to back up his trash talk against Rampage:
"It definitely makes me fight better. The only reason it makes me fight better is because it makes me prepare better. I realize every quote I make, I've got to back it up. That’s why I try to not insult my opponent and say things that I only think will be true.
"
Rampage talked to the Vancouver Sun about Jones' inexperience with fighters like Jackson:
"I basically looked at the fight, my teammates looked at it and saw he ain’t really fought anyone like me. Everybody’s counting me out and it’s making me more and more confident. I’m going to relieve of him of his first loss. I’m going to be the person to give him the first (expletive)-whooping, so he can go on to be the great fighter that I know he can be.
"
Main Card Fight To Watch That Isn't The Main Event—Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton
This is one of those fights that most people don’t know about, but can absolutely steal the show and win fight of the night. Maybe it could even win knockout of the night because these two men are the definition of sluggers.
Rob Broughton is a tough fighter with a sturdy chin of stone, but he is taking on 6-foot-7 Travis Browne who boasts an 11-0-1 record in MMA. Both men are trying to make an impact in the sport and something has to give on Saturday.
Preliminary Fight To Watch—Nick Ring vs. Tim Boetsch
With Tim Boetsch making the transition to middleweight, it will be exciting to see if he can generate the same amount of power to his attack despite being 20 pounds lighter. He will be taking on middleweight prospect Nick Ring who brings his undefeated streak into this bout. This should be an absolute war.
Boetsch was known for his power and tough chin, but it will be interesting to see how the clash of a speedy fighter handles the more powerful fighter. We will see if Ring tries to wear Boetsch out or go for the kill.
Main Event Prediction—Jon Jones by Unanimous Decision
Jon Jones is a younger and faster fighter than Jackson, but he is still relatively new to the MMA and could leave himself exposed for submission moves if he underestimates Jackson's technical skills.
Everyone is underestimating Rampage because of his movie star lifestyle, but his training is just as intense as Jones’. Rampage will push Jones like he never has been pushed before.
These are two of the toughest guys in the business today and their match on Saturday is going to be a battle for the ages.
