Rampage Jackson and the Top 7 MMA Fighters Who Could Do Stand-Up Comedy
For those watching Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, fans were treated to a verbal joust between UFC 135 headliners Jon Jones and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
Always known as a humorous personalty of the sport, Jackson stole the show with his hilarious jabs at Jones, constantly ripping the young champion.
In a sport with so many different characters, there are a few fighters who have a propensity for comedy.
Here are the top seven MMA fighters who could make it as comedians.
7. Krazy Horse Bennett
1 of 7Although not the most successful—or sanest—MMA fighter, Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett is quite a humorous figure.
Known for his cockiness and insults before and after fights, Bennett has offered some of the funniest yet most controversial sound bites in the sport.
His post-fight commentary after knocking out K.J. Noons is a personal favorite of mine.
Bennett has mentioned before that he has aspirations for acting, which would be an option for the 31-year-old featherweight if he can stay out of legal battles.
Whether you love him or hate him, Bennett's craziness would make for good stand-up in a Charlie Sheen kind of way.
6. Bas Rutten
2 of 7A legend of the sport, the now retired Bas Rutten has a unique sense of humor that shines through any of his many projects.
While hosting Inside MMA, Rutten's commentary is a mixture of insightful analysis and humorous interjections. Rutten has also done work on children's programs, showing that he can entertain audiences of all ages.
Rutten has appeared on many sitcoms as well, including two appearances on The King of Queens.
One of the funniest guys in the sport, I'd pay to see Rutten do a set at any hole in the wall comedy club.
5. Gerald Harris
3 of 7For those who don't know former UFC middleweight Gerald Harris, there is a reason why he could be a comedian—because that was his former occupation.
Before turning to MMA full-time, Harris was a stand-up comic, a career he pursued straight out of college. Harris turned away from comedy when he realized he could make a better living as a fighter.
Even today, Harris keeps in touch with his roots by hosting various comedy shows with up-and-coming comedians.
When Harris' career is over, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take up the mic once again.
4. Pat Barry
4 of 7Humorous heavyweight striker Pat Barry knows how to get the laughs.
The laid-back UFC veteran always has something funny to say in his interviews before and after fights. Just looking at his upside-down shades while promoting MMA clothing brand TapouT, you can tell that Barry is not the most overtly serious fighter outside of the Octagon.
If Barry were to become a comedian full-time, you could expect him to flourish in the field.
Whether it's joking about his childhood aspirations of becoming a ninja or hyping up his bouts against his fellow heavyweights, Barry always knows how to have a good time while keeping the laughs coming.
3. Rampage Jackson
5 of 7For years, Rampage Jackson has been entertaining fans with his antics outside of the cage.
Not only is he one of the best light heavyweights in the world, he is also one of the funniest fighters to listen to.
Whether it's ripping on Jon Jones and Rashad Evans or humorously attempting to seduce female reporters, Rampage keeps the comedy coming anytime cameras are around.
Starring in the 2010 movie The A-Team, Jackson showed that he has the ability to convey his humor to a wider audience.
Rampage has the best chance of any fighter to make it big as an action/comedy star.
2. Mayhem Miller
6 of 7The witty coach of the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, Jason "Mayhem" Miller is by far one of the funniest guys in MMA.
Quick with his remarks, Mayhem always has something humorous to say in his media interviews.
Mayhem's knowledge of seemingly obscure pop culture references and overall off the wall behavior would make comedy gold if he decided to take the stage.
After gaining a following as the host of MTV's Bully Beatdown, who knows how high his star will rise after what's sure to be the funniest season of The Ultimate Fighter?
1. Chael Sonnen
7 of 7Did you really think that anyone else would take the top spot?
Chael Sonnen's hilarious diatribes against Anderson Silva and the entire nation of Brazil have brought the ire of some and laughs from many.
Just watching him host talks at various UFC events, his charisma, timing and pure comedic presence make him a perfect candidate for becoming a comedian.
Who knows if he will ever get that belt, but if he wants to trade in the cage for the stage, Sonnen's already got a fanbase ready to support him.
