WWE Night of Champions Results: 6 Reasons Triple H vs. CM Punk Needs To Happen
At WWE Night of Champions, CM Punk and Triple H laid it all on the line.
For Triple H, his job as WWE C.O.O. was at stake. For Punk, he set out to prove that he truly was the best wrestler in the world.
When the bell rang and the PPV was over, however, it was Triple H standing tall, both his job and his pride intact.
Of course, it didn't come without controversy.
There was tons of interference during the match between Punk and Triple H, and we can all assume that this feud is nowhere near over. Not by a long shot.
There's no doubt that Triple H and Punk will meet one-on-one once again, and that it will happen sooner or later.
Here are six reasons why we've gotta see the Voice of the Voiceless and The Game at least one more time.
6. To Avoid a Match Between Kevin Nash and CM Punk
1 of 6Kevin Nash is 52 years old, hovers at just under seven feet tall and is injury prone, so it's a wonder why anyone in the WWE would think he'd remain healthy if he actually competed in a match.
Well, he wasn't in good enough physical condition to wrestle CM Punk at Night of Champions as was originally scheduled, and guess what? He was reportedly injured at Sunday's pay-per-view.
Let's just hope the WWE does everyone a favor and keeps Nash clear of any one-on-one match with Punk, Triple H or anyone else involved in this feud for that matter.
For some reason, I have a strange feeling that the creative team still wants to do a match between Nash and CM Punk (or Triple H) at some point down the road. After all, I don't think he was brought in to simply do run-ins each and every week.
So, my theory behind wanting to see another Punk/Triple H bout in the immediate future is that it will prevent us from having to sit through a Nash/Triple H or Nash/Punk match, both of which will likely be terrible wrestling-wise.
5. To See if Triple H Will Turn Heel
2 of 6Maybe you're in the minority, but the vast majority of WWE fans expected this feud between Triple H and CM Punk to lead to one thing: A heel turn for Triple H.
We thought it would happen at Night of Champions, but that wasn't the case. So, now we're beginning to wonder if, not when, Triple H will turn to the dark side.
I'm still holding out hope that we'll see a heel Triple H sometime soon, and the best way for the WWE C.O.O. to become a bad boss is to do so during a match with CM Punk.
Yeah, he could do it by attacking Punk on Raw. Yeah, he could do it by having someone else lay out Punk.
But it's not going to mean nearly as much unless Triple H turns heel by having someone help him beat Punk—or he himself goes apes**t on Punk—at a huge pay-per-view down the road, possibly Survivor Series.
4. It Will Draw
3 of 6John Cena is once again your WWE Champion, and I think it's pretty safe to say that we've already seen him wrestle all of his top possible challengers on Raw.
R-Truth? Check. The Miz? Check. CM Punk? Check. Triple H? Check. Alberto Del Rio? Check.
So, any feud that Cena has on Raw for the next couple of months likely isn't going to be a huge draw. In fact, it'll probably be the same recycled, rehashed B.S. until The Rock comes back for the build to Survivor Series.
Therefore, if the WWE is going to avoid losing any more viewers to Monday Night Football, the company will have to make sure that one of its top two Raw feuds will keep fans interested.
I think Triple H vs. Punk is one of the few options on the show that can actually do that, and should the creative team do a better job of building up to the next encounter between these two, it could be something really special.
3. To Bring Vince McMahon Back to WWE TV
4 of 6Vince McMahon will return to WWE TV—we just don't know when.
Like many others, I assumed that this feud between Triple H and CM Punk was all just a setup to bring back the Mr. McMahon character.
Now, I'm not so sure.
If Triple H moves on to a feud with R-Truth and The Miz or even Kevin Nash, then where does that leave Punk? And how does Mr. McMahon come into play?
I don't know, but I do know one thing: I really miss seeing Vinny Mac on Raw every Monday. And, in order for him to come back to TV, I think this Triple H/Punk feud has to continue.
If not, then it'll be much harder for the creative team to book McMahon's return in a manner that is both effective and makes sense.
2. So Triple H Can Put CM Punk Over
5 of 6I was highly disappointed with Night of Champions because two guys who have been at the top of the business for several years (Triple H and John Cena) went over two guys who just got there and could have used the rub (CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio).
But I still see why Punk lost to Triple H, and I completely understand it.
It would have been way too soon for the WWE brass to remove Triple H as the WWE C.O.O., so him getting the win over Punk was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, that doesn't do much for Punk.
He was built up so well over the summer, but now he's coming off a loss to someone who lost his only other match of 2011.
The creative team has to make up for this, and it can do so by booking Punk to beat Triple H clean in a singles match on pay-per-view down the road.
Ah, that'll be day.
1. All the Shenanigans in Their Night of Champions Match
6 of 6I've heard of having run-ins or interference during a match, but the match between CM Punk and Triple H at Night of Champions was a little ridiculous.
You had the referee, John Laurinaitis, The Miz, R-Truth and Kevin Nash all get involved the bout, with some of them attacking both Punk and Triple H.
As a result, Triple H's win is a highly controversial one. Sure, all those people tried to prevent him from winning the match, but they tried to prevent Punk from winning it, too.
That means that there was really no resolution whatsoever in the feud between Punk and Triple H. Yeah, Triple H won, but he needed a boatload of help to do so.
We need to get a match between these two where that isn't the case.
