Peyton Manning Injury: Is Brett Favre the Colts' Only Hope?
Is the Kerry Collins Era in Indianapolis over just two games into the season?
I don’t believe so, but Bob Kravitz, a respected columnist for the Indianapolis Star, believes that the team should look to replace him now.
You won’t believe who he is calling for to replace him…

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Well, okay maybe you will at this point, but it’s none other than Brett Favre.
Kravitz writes,
“The next time Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay tweets about visiting Hattiesburg, Miss., here's hoping he's not joking around… Why not try something a little crazy and see if Brett Favre is interested in dismounting his tractor and taking over the Colts offense?”
The tweet Kravitz is referring to is from back on August 21, during the preseason when Peyton Manning’s status was still undetermined.
Now that it looks like Manning won’t be back for a while and could possibly miss the rest of the season, Colts’ fans and writers are in a scramble to find ways to avoid their first losing season since 2001 and what would be only their third since Peyton was drafted in 1998.
Kravitz may be right about current starter Kerry Collins, whom he called a,
“Nice guy, stand-up guy, and once upon a time, he was a pretty darned good NFL quarterback,” but also said, “It doesn't matter how much more of the playbook he learns or how completely he masters the no-huddle offense; he's 38 years old and has more mileage than my first car.”
The flaw in this argument is that he is clamoring for the team to go out and sign a guy who is three weeks away from his forty-second birthday in Favre. If you think Collins is bad at 38, imagine how terrible Favre is going to be at his advanced age.
Favre doesn’t have any preseason time to learn the playbook or no-huddle offense and won’t have an advantage on Collins in that area either.
To his credit, Kravitz does want the team to consider Curtis Painter, but it was obvious in the preseason that he can’t handle the team better than Collins, which is the reason they went out, signed him and then started the 38-year-old.
The Colts need to just suck it up, deal with the fact that the team is built around Manning and use their high draft pick on a QB to be the future of the franchise after No. 18 fades into the sunset.
