WWE Night of Champions Results: 5 Possible Teams for Air Boom's Next Opponents
Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne, known collectively as Air Boom, successfully defended their WWE Tag Team Championships against The Miz and R-Truth at Night of Champions.
Well, they didn't exactly get a clean victory. But The Miz got himself disqualified when he put his hands on the referee, so Air Boom got to keep their tag titles.
Thanks to the finish of the match, I guess we could see a rematch between these two tag teams down the road. I wouldn't bet it on it, though.
The Miz and Truth seem to have set their sights on bigger things, and Kingston and Bourne are likely moving on to their next challengers.
So, who will step up to face them for the big penny-looking belts?
Here are five possible tag teams who could challenge Air Boom for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
5. JTG and Darren Young
1 of 5In the main event of last week's episode of NXT, the team of Darren Young and JTG defeated William Regal and Matt Striker.
Admittedly, I'm a bigger fan of the Striker/Regal pairing, but neither of those guys are full-time wrestlers anymore. I doubt we'll see much more out of those two.
As for Young and JTG, I gotta admit that I'm still shocked either of them are still employed. I thought for sure JTG would be released when Cryme Tyme split (still a dumb move), and I was damn near 100 percent positive that Young would be gone after getting kicked out of Nexus.
Hasn't happened.
Well, if they're still going to be a part of the WWE roster, then you might as well get some value out of them.
They're not going to be very effective as singles competitors, so a tag team makes sense, even if it won't be all that exciting.
4. Ricardo Rodriguez and Alberto Del Rio
2 of 5Alberto Del Rio fell victim to the "John Cena has to have the WWE Championship" booking tactic on Sunday, and I honestly don't see him winning it back anytime soon.
If the WWE brass had any faith in him as the WWE champion, then he would still be holding the belt. But that's obviously not the case.
As a result, I fully expect Del Rio to lose his rematch against Cena at Hell in a Cell and then go back to the mid-card.
So, why not pair him with his ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez and have them go after the WWE Tag Team Championships?
Rodriguez is a trained wrestler (in case you didn't know), and he's got some excellent heel mannerisms in the ring.
Putting him in a tag team with Del Rio and then having them challenge Air Boom would be a lot better than putting ADR in a worthless mid-card feud with someone like Alex Riley.
3. John Morrison and Alex Riley
3 of 5Other than the fact that they're both exciting high-fliers, the basis of the pairing of Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne is that they're mid-carders who had nothing else to do.
Sound familiar?
Alex Riley hasn't done much of note since his feud with The Miz ended, and John Morrison has been booked absolutely horribly since returning from injury earlier this summer. In other words, they have nothing to do.
They were seemingly thrown into the United States Championship picture for who knows what reason, so we could definitely see the same thing happen once again—only, this time, in the WWE Tag Team Championship scene.
I realize that an Air Boom vs. Riley/Morrison feud would be a face vs. face matchup, but they're four of the most over mid-carders in all of the WWE. Unlike a heel/heel feud, the fans would enjoy it either way.
2. The Usos
4 of 5Ah, the curious case of the Usos.
There was a point in time where I could never tell if Jimmy and Jey were heels or faces. Then, they started embracing their Samoan heritage a little more, doing the Haka as their entrance and getting somewhat of a push on SmackDown.
Now, they're right back where they started: a forgotten tag team that gets wasted away on Superstars and NXT.
I don't really get it, because—although they may not be everyone's cup of tea—the Usos are the most legitimate tag team in the WWE. Yes, even more so than Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne.
They're twin brothers for crying out loud. Give them a feud with Air Boom, and I guarantee we'll get some pretty good matches out of it.
1. Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks
5 of 5One of the problems with Monday Night Raw's new "Raw Supershow" format is that the WWE's lower-card workers won't get a chance to appear on the show, much less make an impact.
That's a shame for guys like Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks.
If you watch them at all on shows like Superstars, then you probably realize that these guys aren't bad wrestlers. In fact, they're pretty good.
When given a chance to show what they can do, both Hawkins and Reks usually deliver the goods. The only question is whether or not the WWE brass realize it.
Apparently not.
But, if you're looking for a heel tag team without taking any singles competitors away from the mid-card, then look no further than Hawkins and Reks.
