Arsenal Is Back On Top.... Again!

Ashish WesleyFeb 3, 2008

Hellos and such, as Arseish is back after a bit of a hiatus from posting all the Arsenal goodness.

This Monday morning is not all-that-bad considering yours truly pulled a bit of a scam and called in sick today! Like some of you who looked at this space in the last week would have known , I was away at Bombay to watch the Iron Maiden show over the weekend. The show was fantastic (as you would expect) but would've been superblywonderfulyarsestastic, if 97.3% of the crowd that came to the show, hadn't.

They are such a bunch of posers really and have no precedent to going to a show such as this. Their behaviour is just downright despicable, moshing at an Iron Maiden show (you must be having a laugh!) I thoroughly enjoyed the show at Bangalore more than the one in Bombay. On a much happier note, I met the great Steve Harris and Dave Murray, with pics and autographs to boot! That was just wonderful, and Steve And Dave are just so down to earth, it was incredulously incredible!

Apologies for that rant on the show, but needed to get that out of the old system. I couldn't get myself to post anything of any real consequence over the weekend so decided now to post just for the heck of it. Anyhoo normal service has resumed now, and I will get back to my regular posting.

So that was a great weekend for us, wasn't it? Beating Manchester City quite convincingly at their ground, bringing their unbeaten streak at home to a halt, the Manky Shite only managing a late late equalizer at Shite Hart Lane, and Chelski only manging to draw as well.

All this meant that Arsenal went to the top of the table, two clear points ahead of Manure and six clear of the Russians. So that left me and I'm sure all of you in high spirits indeed. I always felt that this weekend could have quite a bit of an effect on the title race as the big boys all had tough fixtures, and that's how it panned out.

It was a truly super performance by the gunners at The City of Manchester Stadium. Both strikers found their rhythm and the back of the net. It was a beautiful chest-down and half-scissor kick by the Crozilian, the best he probably ever scored for us thus far. His strike partner on the day, Ade is simply unstoppabe and with 11 goals in the last seven games he is absolutely lethal! So much so that the beanpole of a Togolese striker has attracted attention from some of the Big boys such as Real Madrid, Juventus, and AC Milan.

Wenger, speaking about Adebayor, said-

"He's a generous type of guy. He has big stamina, strength and power and just loves to play. Thierry Henry is a world class player and we don't forget him, but to fill the void left by him is fantastic."

Im really not too sure about Ade filling Henry's boots, (not yet at least) while that is high praise indeed coming From Le Prof, maybe its a bit pre-mature, and could have been taken out of context. I'd really like to see Ade keep this form up for sometime to come, before any talk of filling Thierry's boots comes into play. As it stands we have a great strike force (once RVP is back of course), and with Eduardo Bendtner and Theo on the bench, our forward line is looking a lot better now than at the start of the season.

Our midfield is also coming into its own a bit; the swagger was evident much more in the City game that in any of our recent outings. Diaby is looking good too, playing in midfield in place of a first choice Rosicky. The Czech may have his work cut out a bit to get into the starting line up ahead of Diaby. The Big frenchman has the strength and skill to be "ball carrier" as it were, and his drives from midfield are what we have been missing from our otherwise "small" midfield. He just has to work on his final ball. This game also saw Cescy take more visible control in midfield, I hope he's back on the button now after being a bit quiet.

An injured Almunia meant that Mad Jens saw a return to Premier League action after a long time indeed. Though he didn't keep a clean sheet, the goal was not down to a mistake by Jens, not by any means. He didnt have too much to do during the duration of the game, as City had a fairly quiet one going forward.

Overall it was a very satisfying and important win in the scheme of things. We are on top and lets hope it stays that way till the end of the season. Blackburn it is next in the league and that's a week away as everyone heads into international break. More on all this later.

I haven't been able to scour through too many stories so, if any of you have any updates on the RVP, Rosicky, Almunia, Toure injury stories, do write me in and update me.

And that will have to do today, as I'm off for lunch and a bit of a snooze as I rest my weary bones!

Have a good one gooners!
