UFC Fight Night 25 Results: 8 Fights to Make After the Event
Talk about your massive upsets.
Saturday night, Jake Ellenberger was able to knock out Jake Shields in under a minute, and in the process, prove to the entire division that he is a contender.
In addition to the main event, there were two Ultimate Fighter winners in action, in Court McGee and Jonathan Brookins.
The main card started with the return of Alan Belcher against Jason MacDonald.
Read on to find out what could be next for each of them.
Alan Belcher vs. Chris Leben/ Mark Munoz Loser
1 of 9That whole "ring rust" thing is just getting blown out of the water isn't it?
Alan Belcher was able to come back and dominate Jason MacDonald en route to a verbal submission to strikes at 3:48 of round one.
Belcher is now on a three fight win streak, and has won five out of six, with the only loss being a split decision to Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Up next for Belcher could be the loser of the Chris Leben-Mark Munoz match at UFC 138.
Jason MacDonald vs. Jorge Rivera
2 of 9Of course when someone has a great night in the UFC, someone else has to have a bad one.
That's what happened to Jason MacDonald when he verbally tapped to strikes against Alan Belcher in the first round.
MacDonald is now 1-2 in his UFC career this time, and 6-7 overall, not the most impressive record. One more loss and he could be on his way out.
A matchup with Jorge Rivera makes sense as a "loser leaves town" type of deal.
Erik Koch vs. Diego Nunes
3 of 9In a featherweight matchup, Erik Koch came out and won a unanimous decision over The Ultimate Fighter 12 lightweight winner, Jonathan Brookins.
Koch is now on a four fight winning streak, and is probably one or two fights away from a title shot.
Up next could be a guy like Diego Nunes.
Jonathan Brookins vs. Manny Gamburyan
4 of 9Well, Jonathan Brookins' drop to featherweight probably didn't work out the way that he hoped.
Brookins dropped a unanimous decision to Erik Koch, and is now 1-2 in ZUFFA.
Up next could be a fight with someone like Manny Gamburyan, to see how Brookins holds up against a seasoned veteran.
Dongi Yang vs. Constantinous Philippou
5 of 9Dongi Yang has now dropped to 1-2 in the UFC, and may not have much ahead of him in the UFC middleweight division.
Yang lost a unanimous decision to Court McGee, and fell down the middleweight ladder.
Yang could face off against Constantinous Philippou next.
Court McGee vs. Dan Miller
6 of 9The second Ultimate Fighter winner in action on Saturday was Court McGee.
McGee came out and won a unanimous decision over Dongi Yang.
McGee made a statement that he could be a real force, so it's time for him to take on a gatekeeper in the middleweight division in Dan Miller.
Jake Shields vs. Thiago Alves/ Papi Abedi Winner
7 of 9Who expected that?
Jake Shields got knocked out in just under a minute on Saturday night, and has now dropped two in a row, and it could easily be three in a row.
If he stays at welterweight, a fight between Thiago Alves or Papi Abedi would be good to see where Shields stands in the stacked welterweight division.
Jake Ellenberger vs. Josh Koscheck/ Matt Hughes Winner
8 of 9Jake Ellenberger just proved to the entire division that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Shields was a top 12 pound for pound fighter, and Ellenberger was able to knock him out in less than 60 seconds.
Many are calling for a title shot for Ellenberger, but I say he needs one more big win before he gets it.
A fight with the winner of Koscheck-Hughes would make sense as far as timeframe.
But for relevancy, a fight with the loser of Nick Diaz-BJ Penn would make more sense for a No. 1 contender fight.
