Carolina Panthers vs. Green Bay Packers: Live Reaction and Instant Analysis

Brandon BeckerSep 18, 2011

Final score: Green Bay 30, Carolina 23

The Green Bay Packers took care of business at Bank of America Stadium this afternoon and were able to force Cam Newton into making mistakes. Aaron Rodgers finished with another 300-yard performance and added two touchdowns to go with it. Newton finished with 432 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

The Packers were able to handle business, but it wasn't easy. Carolina raced out to a quick 13-0 lead and held a six-point lead going into halftime. Green Bay responded in the second half going ahead 23-13 at one point, although the pesky Panthers weren't quite done.

Newton consistently was able to get the Panthers into the red zone but not into the end zone. After a stalled drive, Olindo Mare banged a field goal through the uprights to make it a 23-16 game. The Packers were stopped on the following drive giving Newton and the Panthers one last chance.

Carolina got the ball to the red zone once again and were unable to punch it into the end zone. It was the story of the game for the Panthers. Green Bay scored on the following drive when Rodgers connected with Jordy Nelson for an 84-yard score. Newton would also add a late score with under a minute to go, but it was too late for Carolina.

Despite the loss, the Panthers have to be encouraged by the play of their team and the continuing development of Newton. He wasn't as good as a week ago, but he also was up against a much better defense.

As for the Packers, this was one that they had to earn even though it felt like they were in control the whole game. Green Bay can play better football, and they will, but all that matters is that they came away with the W Sunday.
