WWE Night of Champions: 5 Reasons Alberto Del Rio Will Retain Championship
Welcome to the 500th article about Night of Champions!
Let's hope Night of Champions delivers as promised.
Alberto Del Rio's reign as WWE Champion has had a rocky start. Del Rio hasn't moved the needle in terms of ratings.
To be fair, this isn't entirely his fault. One week, he didn't even appear on Raw due to visa issues. And Monday Night Football has historically been a ratings killer for Raw.
Getting back to the WWE Championship match: I thought it would be a triple threat between CM Punk, John Cena and Alberto Del Rio.
A lot of people are saying Alberto Del Rio will retain the WWE Championship. I don't think Del Rio will lose at Night of Champions, because of these five reasons.
Reason 1: WWE's Tour of Mexico Is in October
1 of 6WWE is going to Mexico in October. It is imperative that Alberto Del Rio is WWE Champion during that tour.
If John Cena were to win the championship, the Mexicans would not appreciate their fellow countryman jobbing to Superman this quickly.
Then again, I don't think the Mexicans appreciate Rey Mysterio jobbing to that overgrown tomato so quickly either.
Alberto Del Rio's cheap impersonation of a Mexican drug lord might irritate them as well.
In all seriousness, Alberto Del Rio needs to be WWE Champion going into the Mexican tour, for financial reasons.
Reason 2: WWE Would Waste a Lot of Time Investing in Del Rio If He Loses
2 of 6Unless Del Rio has some serious backstage heat, WWE would be crazy to end his reign this soon.
They have spent the better part of 2011 building Del Rio up into a main event star. It makes no sense to take the belt off of Del Rio now.
Why would WWE waste all that momentum?
He won the 2011 Royal Rumble and the Raw Money in the Bank ladder match, and he even cashed in his briefcase on the second biggest pay-per-view of the year, SummerSlam.
All of that effort would go to waste if Del Rio were to lose at Night of Champions.
Reason 3: The WWE Championship Will Be Devalued If There Is a Title Change
3 of 6Miz, John Cena, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio are the five men who have held the WWE Championship in 2011.
There have been four different champions in the last two months. Mathematically, there has been a title change every two weeks. It is safe to say the WWE Championship has been tossed around as of late.
Alberto Del Rio needs to stabilize the belt. I know that doesn't make any sense. Then again, wrestling isn't supposed to make sense.
Regardless, Del Rio needs a lengthy and credible reign to make WWE's investment in him pay off.
Reason 4: John Cena Will Be Busy with the Rock at Survivor Series
4 of 6This has more to do with John Cena than Alberto Del Rio. Apparently, John Cena is teaming up with the Rock at Survivor Series.
Yes, you read correctly, the Rock is teaming up with John Cena.
All of the Team Bring It members just threw up in their mouths. Believe me, I would have preferred Team Rock versus Team Cena.
You might ask what this has to do with the WWE Championship.
Simple: John Cena cannot be champion, unless WWE does not want the WWE Championship to be defended at Survivor Series.
It makes very little sense to put the belt on Cena for the 1,342th time and then take it off of him at Hell in a Cell or Vengeance.
It does make sense for Del Rio and Cena's feud to continue to Vengeance. Del Rio should win the feud to boost his credibility.
But the fifth reason is definitely the most important.
Reason 5: It Is His Destiny
5 of 6But you already know that.
