USC Football: Trojans Will Destroy Syracuse on Eve of Pac-12 Season
Minnesota and Utah should have been easy victories for the USC Trojans, but things didn't exactly go according to plan.
They came away with victories in both games, but they would have preferred to coast through the fourth quarter instead of exerting so much energy.
They now face a Syracuse team that is also 2-0 and fresh off an unimpressive 21-14 victory over Rhode Island.
This should be no problem for the Trojans. Sure, we have all heard that before, but it should be different this time around. Syracuse is simply a bad football team.
They barely beat Wake Forest and Rhode Island who are known for their basketball, not their football.
QB Ryan Nassib has been quite impressive for Syracuse so far, but has not faced a defense with the athleticism that USC boasts. He has completed 75 percent of his passes this season, but that won't continue against USC. The Trojans' defense has some flaws, but they are without a doubt better than anything Rhode Island or Wake Forest can put out on the field.
Syracuse will have no answer whatsoever for Trojans QB Matt Barkley, who is expected to be a first-round pick in next April's NFL draft.
Barkley is a very efficient QB who has thrown for 568 yards and four touchdowns so far on the season. His favorite target is Robert Woods who has hauled in 25 catches for 279 yards through just two games.
Look for these two to connect early and often against a pass defense that struggled mightily against Wake Forest's Tanner Price.
Don't get too excited though, Trojan fans.
USC has to go on the road for an extremely difficult test just one week later when they travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on No. 22 Arizona State, as the heart of the team's Pac-12 schedule begins.
