Ohio State Football: Tireless Scandal Runs Deeper as Booster Admits Wrongdoing
"The" Ohio State Buckeyes have seen three suspended players return to the football program this week.
Running back Jordan Hall, cornerback Travis Howard and defensive back Corey Brown were all reinstated by the NCAA yesterday in time for the "Battle of the Scandals Bowl" in Miami this weekend.
The Buckeyes, who enter the game 2-0, are a two-point underdog against the 0-1 Hurricanes.
But that isn't the biggest story line this week.
No, once again more ugly news from the much-publicized scandal Buckeyes scandal has surfaced.
According to the Columbus Dispatch an Ohio State booster and local businessman, Robert “Bobby” DiGeronimo, played a "vital role" in the players' suspensions.
The report states:
"Brown, Hall and Howard were suspended for accepting the money at a Cornerstone of Hope fundraiser in Independence, Ohio, on Feb. 19. The charity assists families grieving the deaths of loved ones.
DiGeronimo confirmed reports to The Dispatch that former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor gave the cash envelopes to his three teammates. DiGeronimo said the money was intended as reimbursement for travel expenses.
"
Naturally, when there is talk of Buckeyes scandal there is talk of Terrelle Pryor.
The former superstar quarterback is currently serving a five-game suspension in the NFL as a member of the Oakland Raiders.
Obviously the money and things of that sort involved with the scandal came from somewhere and DiGeronimo is just a name to back it.
At this point it is just another blip on the radar of one of the uglier scandals in the NCAA.
It goes without saying that there will be plenty more Bobby DiGeronimo's in the future.
There isn't much else to make of this other than seeing Pryor's name linked to a hand-off that didn't include a football.
It is not the first time this has happened, and it is unlikely to be the last.
