NFL Predictions Week 2: Which WRs Are Locks For 100 Yard Games?

John RozumSep 13, 2011

With Week 1 of the 2011 NFL season in the books, the question for any WR who performed well is whether or not they can maintain their high level of consistency.

Also, for the WRs that didn't play well in their first game, Week 2 is another chance for them to get going.

So which WRs are a lock for 100-plus yards this week?

We begin in the NFC...

Johnny Knox, Chicago Bears

In Week 1 Bears' QB Jay Cutler threw for over 300 yards, but receiver eclipsed 100 receiving.

Counteracting that however, was a New Orleans defense that allowed over 300 passing yards from Aaron Rodgers, as well as three TDs.

As for Knox, he only caught three passes but did compile 60 yards.

Against the Saints, Knox will be Cutler's No. 1 target because the New Orleans defense will be prepared to shut down the ground attack of RB Matt Forte.

Knox may not score, as Cutler tends to gravitate toward his RBs and TEs when in the red-zone, but Johnny will burn Saints' defenders because none can match his speed, quickness and acceleration.

Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

This should come as no surprise.  Johnson is arguably the game's best WR, and he will go against a Miami defense that allowed over 500 passing yards to Tom Brady.

And yes, it's Tom Brady, but Johnson is better than any of Brady's targets, and Matt Schaub is no slouch of a QB.

Needless to say, the Dolphins' defense once again has their hands full, and Andre could very well top 200 in this game.

Even if Miami employs double coverage in each play, Johnson will still eclipse 100 yards.  If Johnson is on your fantasy team, get excited about his Week 2 matchup.

Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers

Sure Antonio Gates isn't technically a WR, but he's really just a bigger WR that happens to have the position of TE, since the Chargers already have two stud WRs in Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson.

That being said, this week San Diego travel across the country to play New England, and although the Pats' are the favorite, Bill Belichick's D still allowed Miami QB Chad Henne to amass over 400 yards on 30 completions.

With Phillip Rivers in Week 2 that number could actually increase.

Gates is Rivers' favorite target, and with the Patriots once again having a weak pass defense, we should be shocked if Antonio doesn't get over 150 yards with a TD or two.
