NFL Power Rankings: Buffalo Bills and the 3 Most Shockingly Impressive Teams

John RozumSep 12, 2011

After Sunday's games came to a close, it was quite apparent that some new teams appeared to be on the rise in the NFL.

That being said, there were also blowout games that really shocked everyone, regardless of the talent on the field.

And obviously the Buffalo Bills are one of those teams, so they kick this article off.

Buffalo Bills

Although it's only one game, the Buffalo Bills have put themselves on the map with a dominating 41-7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, in Arrowhead Stadium no less.

A lot of critics and skeptics thought this game would be a blowout (guilty), but in favor of the Chiefs.

Well, Bills quarterbacks Ryan Fitzpatrick wanted nothing to do with that, tossing four touchdowns to three different players, while also compiling over 200 yards, but with an even more impressive zero picks.

In addition, running back Fred Jackson gained 112 yards on 20 carries, while the defense limited K.C.'s Jamaal Charles to 56 yards on 10 carries.

Perhaps the biggest stat in the game was Buffalo forcing three turnovers, as well as significantly winning the time of possession battle 37:02 to 22:58.

Having the ball for 14 more minutes than your opponent is a bigger difference in the NFL than most think.

First off, we knew the Bears had some talent. However, their pass defense was questionable after last season, and with Atlanta's pass-heavy offense coming in, it was supposed to be a foregone conclusion that Chicago would get picked apart.

Obviously the Monsters of the Midway weren't buying it, and Lovie Smith's defense forced three turnovers in the first three quarters.

As for Mike Martz's offense, quarterback Jay Cutler played a flawless game through three quarters (threw a pick in the fourth), and finished 22-of-32 passing for 312 yards and two touchdowns.

The addition of safety Brandon Meriweather must have been the boost the Bears needed, because cornerback Charles Tillman played well, and the front seven sacked Matt Ryan five times with an additional 11 QB hits.

It was expected that Peyton Manning's absence was going to hurt the Colts, but not completely obliterate all hope.

But that apparently was the case, as the Texans punched Indy in the mouth from the kickoff, held a 34-0 half-time lead, and just played keep-away (which is really fun, by the way) in the second half.

Not only does this give Houston a lot of confidence, but it gives a loaded team even more confidence, and they are scary good.

Sure, the Colts were without arguably the NFL's best quarterback, but it wouldn't have made a difference as to who won this game.

Yes, it would have been closer, but this was long overdue for Houston, and they will keep rolling.

With a much improved defense at all levels, and the same old sick offense, head coach Gary Kubiak may have just saved his job this season.
