Adrian Peterson: 'All Day' Deserves Edge on Chris Johnson with New Deal

Brandon GalvinSep 10, 2011

Adrian Peterson is the NFL's best running back.

Sorry, Chris Johnson, It’s true.

Ask any (unbiased) fantasy football and NFL fan out there. They’ll tell you the same thing.

There isn’t a single thing AP can’t do on a football field. There’s a damn good reason we call him “All Day.”

AD has unlimited stamina and abilities, which not only allow him to stay on the field for an entire game, but dominate, all day, every day.

It’s about time the Minnesota Vikings provided AP with the honor he’s deserved for three years.

"

“With Adrian Peterson due to make $10.7 million in 2011 and, if subject to the franchise tag, $12.84 million in 2012, Peterson truly was in the driver’s seat.  And he has now traded in the car for a deal that will pay him a whopping $40 million in the first three years.

In contrast, Titans running back Chris Johnson will receive $31 million over the next three seasons. Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams will be paid $30 million in that same period of time.

The seven-year deal (technically, six-year extension) will pay $52 million over four years and $65 million over five years.  Johnson will get $39 million and $47 million, respectively, over that same period of time …

In the unlikely event that Peterson plays for each of the next seven years under the new contract, he’ll make $96 million, and he’ll be eligible for a $4 million escalator that will push the total value to $100 million, if he achieves it,” according to NBC’s Mike Florio.

"

Let’s all stand up and applaud the Vikings for doing the right thing. They didn’t make AP wait all day or all season to receive his contract. They got it out of the way before the season started and took care of the man who will fight for an MVP award each and every week.

Peterson is the most polished runner in the game. What do you want him to do?

  • Run between the tackles? ✔
  • Run to the outside? ✔
  • Run over defenders? ✔
  • Run around defenders? ✔
  • Pick up the blitz? ✔
  • Catch out of the backfield? ✔

AP is a once-in-a-lifetime running back. He is the angriest runner in the league, but is also the smoothest at the same time. He has the rare, envious combination of speed, vision and power. His skills are off the charts and he deserves every cent of this contract.

He is the most consistent runner in the league. The man has run for 296 yards in a single game. He’s accumulated 5,782 yards and 52 touchdowns in just 61 games. He’s gained at least 1,298 yards every year of his career.

Peterson put his injury concerns out of Oklahoma to shame. He’s improved every aspect of his game since entering the league, especially as a receiver. He has 119 receptions for 1,170 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons.

CJ2K may not be happy to see AP make that much more than him, but it’s more than justified for one reason:

Peterson is more trustworthy in short-yardage situations.

As explosive and dynamic as Johnson is, who do you want in goal-line situations? Who do you want to move the pile on third and one or fourth and inches? Peterson has similar dynamic skills to Johnson, but he has the supreme power that’ll leave you salivating.

Given his all-around game, Peterson deserves to be the highest paid running back all day, every day.
