WWE Friday Night SmackDown Recap: 5 Best Moments of the Night

Kaleb KelchnerSep 10, 2011

The weekend kicked off in proper fashion last night, with an action-packed WWE Friday Night SmackDown!

Bleacher Report is here to break down the top five moments of the night, and there's plenty to choose.

World Heavyweight Championship No. 1 contender Mark Henry continued to induct superstars into his "Hall of Pain" on his path to facing Randy Orton at Night of Champions.

Also, Sin Cara was not only in action, but he also spoke to Josh Matthews about his new attitude.  Not to mention the champion vs. champion main event, where World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton took on Cody Rhodes, the WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Check out the following slides to see where these moments, and more, rank on our list of top moments of the night.

WWE Tag Team Champions Air Boom Victorious; Great Khali and Jinder Mahal Split?

1 of 5

This moment was one of the last, but was memorable for multiple reasons.

The continued success of Air Boom, for the time being, means the continued growth of the WWE's tag team division.  They're the new baby-faced kids on the block in the division, and their exciting styles are fan-friendly.

The WWE Tag Team Champions, Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne, took on The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal in a rematch from WWE Monday Night Raw.

Finally, the volatile relationship between Khali and Jinder Mahal took a turn for the worse, with Khali pushing Jinder after yelling at him, knocking him right into Kofi Kingston.

Not only did the good guys win, but the strange angle between Khali and Jinder Mahal that was going nowhere is either picking up or coming to a close. I'm fine with either.

Mark Henry Inducts Zack Ryder and Ezekiel Jackson into the Hall of Pain

2 of 5

Mark Henry kicked off the show with his usual, menacing rant about hurting people.

Fan favorite Zack Ryder was tasked with telling Henry that there was a "No Contact" rule instated by GM Teddy Long, that would not allow Henry to come into contact with Randy Orton.

Ryder tried to bail from the ring as quickly as he could, but was soon flattened by the monster heel that is Mark Henry.

Afterwards, Ezekiel Jackson came out to face Mark Henry in the first match of the night and was defeated shortly after the match began.

You don't have to like the WWE's direction with "The World's Strongest Man," but at least the WWE isn't dropping the ball on continuity.

Christian Inserts Himself into the Sheamus/Wade Barrett Brawl

3 of 5

After chasing Christian from the ring so he could get on with his match against Wade Barrett, Sheamus thought he'd dealt with Christian for the night. He was wrong.

After a fun brawl between Sheamus and Wade Barrett looking as though it was coming to an end in favor of Sheamus, Christian ran in and attacked "The Great White."

Sheamus won the match via DQ, but the fight wasn't over.

Barrett jumped in the fight as well, working with Christian. Sheamus managed to flatten Barrett with a Brogue Kick, but Christian escaped the Celtic Cross and retreated up the ramp.

I'm not sure where this feud is going, but this is one to keep our eyes on, for certain.

Randy Orton Defeats Cody Rhodes and Fights Mark Henry

4 of 5

In the main event of the evening, Randy Orton took on Cody Rhodes in a champion vs. champion match.

The former Legacy stablemates put on a solid match where Rhodes didn't allow "The Viper" to run over him.

Despite his quality performance, Rhodes was hit with the inevitable RKO and was covered for the three-count.

After the match, Mark Henry came out and had a stare down with Orton in the ring. Orton opted to disobey the "No Contact" rule and attack Henry.

"The World's Strongest Man" shrugged off the attack, and hit Orton with The World's Strongest Slam, then placed a chair over his chest and next, setting it up and sitting on it.

The show ended with Henry telling Orton that he's coming for his title.

Sin Cara Beats Tyson Kidd, Discusses Aggression and Submits Daniel Bryan

5 of 5

Last week, Sin Cara showed off his new aggressive attitude against Daniel Bryan, kicking him in the head after beating him.

This week, Sin Cara beat Tyson Kidd in typical Sin Cara fashion, and Josh Matthews approached for an interview.

Expecting Sin Cara to know only Spanish (as is true to the "real" Sin Cara), Matthews and the rest of the WWE Universe was shocked when Sin Cara replied in English and Spanish.

Sin Cara told Matthews that he's been held back, and is getting aggressive. He also called himself the "real Sin Cara," which was an interesting choice of words.

After the interview, Daniel Bryan came out, and told Sin Cara they would have a rematch next week, and that he can be as aggressive as he wants to be.  Sin Cara agreed, and then slapped the LeBell Lock on Bryan, causing him to tap out immediately.

The interesting developments in Sin Cara's character puts this moment at the top of our list.

How does our ranking compare to yours?
