UFC 137 News: Nick Diaz Pulled from Title Fight After No-Showing 2nd Conference

Tim McTiernanSep 7, 2011

Nick Diaz no-showed his press conference in Toronto for UFC 137.

Diaz had three flights booked to the conference in Toronto, and he did not go to any of them.

At the UFC 137 press conference in Las Vegas on September 7, it was announced by UFC President Dana White that Diaz would be pulled from his scheduled title fight against welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

He will be replaced by Carlos Condit, who was originally going to fight BJ Penn at UFC 137.

So Condit will now fight on the same card, but with a much brighter spotlight on him, as he will take on a consensus top-two pound for pound fighter in the world in St-Pierre.

Cesar Gracie, Nick Diaz' manager, called Dana White during the press conference to say that he completely agrees with Dana's decision, and that Diaz snuck out the back door of Gracie's house.

Dana later added that when he called Condit to offer the fight, Condit began to cry and had to call him back 15 minutes later to accept.

During the press conference, GSP spoke about Condit, saying that he feels Condit is a more dangerous opponent, and has more weapons at his disposal.

The irony of the whole situation? The pre-sale tickets for GSP-Diaz went on sale today. White said that fans who do not wish to attend GSP-Condit are welcome to return their tickets.
