UFC 135 Fight Card: 6 Things You Can Forget About Seeing in Denver
On September 24, the UFC returns to Denver for the first time in 16 years.
This is the start of a stretch of insanely stacked cards coming up for the UFC. This edition features some great fights on the main card.
The main event has Jon Jones looking to defend his light heavyweight title against Rampage Jackson.
The co-main event is currently up in the air, but it looks like it will be Matt Hughes taking on Josh Koscheck in a welterweight fight.
The next fight is a lightweight fight between Nate Diaz and the former No. 1 lightweight in the world, Takanori Gomi.
Rounding out the main card are two heavyweight matchups, with Travis Browne taking on Rob Broughton and Ben Rothwell taking on Mark Hunt.
Read on to find out six things that you will not see at UFC 135.
Diego Sanchez
1 of 7Right off the bat, you will not see Diego Sanchez in Denver on the eve of UFC 135.
Sanchez was forced to pull out of his co-main event fight against Matt Hughes, and the UFC is currently waiting for Hughes to accept a fight with Josh Koscheck.
A Boring Main Card
2 of 7This card is absolutely stacked, but you probably don't even realize it, because it is overshadowed by UFC 136 and 137.
Everyone knows the main event is Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson, and I just told you the co-main event will likely be Matt Hughes vs. Josh Koscheck.
Beyond that on the main card, you've got Nate Diaz returning to lightweight to take on the former No. 1 lightweight in the world, Takanori Gomi. Between them, they have a combined 30 finishes, and seven fight night bonuses.
After that is Travis Browne taking on Rob Broughton in a heavyweight fight. Browne is known for violently knocking out Stefan Struve at UFC 130, and Broughton is no slouch in the striking department, holding seven wins by (T)KO.
The first fight on the main card features the return of Ben Rothwell against Mark Hunt. Both of these two are great strikers, Rothwell has 18 (T)KO's, and Mark Hunt has four (T)KO's in MMA, and 13 more in pro kickboxing.
This card is going to be epic.
Rampage Jackson Being on His Feet for the Whole Fight
3 of 7This one shouldn't really come as a surprise. Rampage Jackson will get taken down by Jon Jones during his fight, and he's going to have some major difficulty if he wants to get back up.
Jones will smother Rampage, ground and pound him, and generally just control him and do whatever he wants.
Which is why you can forget about...
Rampage Jackson Leaving with the Belt
4 of 7There's no way that Rampage makes it out of there with the light heavyweight belt strapped around his waist.
Sorry, but we all basically know that's true.
Rampage is a one-dimensional fighter, and everyone knows it.
Jones will easily be able to take down Rampage, and just do whatever he wants with him on the ground.
With all that given, you can also forget about...
Jon Jones Not Finishing Rampage
5 of 7As discussed in the last slide, Jones will be able to take down Rampage, wear him out and ground and pound him for the finish.
If Rampage manages to last all 25 minutes with Jones, I, along with most other people, would be tremendously surprised.
Also, should the fight go all 25 minutes, it had better be a candidate for fight of the year. These two do have all the ingredients for that.
Someone Wearing One Boxing Glove
6 of 7This will be the UFC's first event in Denver since UFC The Ultimate Ultimate back in 1995. Prior to that, they held events there in 1994 and 1993.
In the first event in UFC history in Denver, in 1993, Art Jimmerson wore one boxing glove in his first round fight against Royce Gracie.
Jimmerson ended up submitting when Royce gained the full mount on him, but he will always be remembered for wearing one boxing glove to that fight.
You can forget about seeing anyone do that at 135.
