WWE: What Is Really Happening With Kevin Nash's "Firing" on RAW?

Tom ClarkJun 7, 2018

Okay, so, what is going on here?

On Monday night, Triple H, after delivering a hard right to the jaw of Kevin Nash, fired the man who he called his former best friend. Nash was later shown getting into the back of a limo with John Laurinaitis, and the two sped off, not to be seen again.

At first glance, this seems to be just another example of the rift that has developed between the two former members of the Kliq, as WWE has been working hard to make all of us believe that these two guys are truly not on the same page.

And, there’s the sticky part. WWE has been working, perhaps a little too hard, to make all of us believe that Hunter and Nash are truly not on the same page.

Generally speaking, whenever we see that sort of work put into a particular direction of the storyline, it usually ends up being nothing more than sleight of hand, in order to deceive the audience.

In other words, a swerve is about to happen.

CM Punk thinks so, as every time Hunter and Nash have a confrontation, he is there, shaking his head, looking smug in his assessment that the whole thing is nothing more than a ruse, meant to throw him off his game. He’s not falling for it, and does not even buy that Hunter really fired Nash in the first place.

He knows that the bond between the two men is too great, and that neither man can be trusted when it comes to a matter like this. Punk has been around too long, and is too savvy to be misled by anyone at this point, even by someone on the level of Triple H.

Now that this event has played out on RAW, and we’re all left scratching our heads, wondering what will happen next, it seems to me that there are two items of interest that cannot be ignored.

One, Kevin Nash is not truly fired. We know the deal, when it comes to anyone getting a pink slip on the air, it is just a work, 99 percent of the time. So, the fact that this happened, means that WWE creative is setting something up for him, probably at the upcoming Night of Champions pay per view.

Two, the work that has been done to persuade us that Nash and Hunter are not in cahoots, meaning that they are, actually is pointing more toward the likelihood that they’re not.

Man, I’m getting a headache from that last one.

Bottom line is, fans are expecting these two guys to be working together, so it will be a swerve on Punk. But, WWE understands that, and surely know that we see it coming a mile away. So, chances are, they will not go that route after all.

So, what’s the answer here? What’s really happening?

For me, there are two possible outcomes.

Punk and Nash have been in this thing together all along. Punk has been called a martyr a few times during the course of this storyline, and in an effort to “facilitate change” as he calls it, he perhaps would have been willing to sacrifice the WWE Championship toward that end.

Nash, being the rebellious money driven Outsider, was lured back to WWE by Laurinaitis, and Punk, with promises of sparking a new revolution in the business, backed by a fat contract and all the perks that go along with it. I can just hear Nash telling Hunter once the truth comes out, “hey man, you better than anyone knows that when it comes to doing what’s right for this industry, it’s not personal, it’s just business.”

But, a more likely outcome, and one that has not really been talked about all that much, is the possibility Punk is indeed just a victim in all this, and he, like Hunter, is being played by the master puppeteer himself, Vince McMahon.

Nash says that he himself sent the text from Hunter’s phone. But, who asked Kevin to come back in the first place? Are we really expected to believe that Nash would do all of this out of a desire to “make the WWE cool again?” Nash’s character does nothing without satisfying his own agenda. Perhaps Nash was invited back to the company by the man that made him, even at the expense of his best friend. McMahon gets back at Hunter for firing him, and once again has the last laugh.

Or, both of these are way off, and there is a third, fourth, or maybe even fifth option for what will be revealed as the true plot here. One thing’s for sure, whatever is happening, WWE needs to pick up the pace.

The crowd reaction was not very good on Monday night, and there were several chants of “boring” during the spots between the three men. Of course, one crowd in one city does not necessarily mean that the angle is dying, but it does mean that though the company is committed to the plan, it does need to tread carefully on this. They’re talking this thing to death. It’s time for some action.

Perhaps the match between Hunter and Punk, which has now become no disqualification, will be just what we need to take the storyline to a whole new level.
