The Ultimate Fighter 14: Ranking the Featherweights and Their Odds of Winning

Sean SmithSep 2, 2011

With the UFC 134 results now in the books, the Season 14 premier of The Ultimate Fighter is less than one month away. Usually, fans head into every season without any sense of how the fighters rank against one another in terms of talent.

This year, The Ultimate Fighter will feature two weight divisions that are fairly new to the UFC. Therefore, there was an abundance of untapped talent that tried out for this season of the reality show. Some world-ranked fighters will even be attempting to prove their worth to the UFC.

In ascending order of their chances of winning the 145-pound tournament, here are the 16 featherweight contestants who will will be competing for a spot on one of two teams coached by UFC middleweights Michael Bisping and Jason Miller.

16. Dustin Neace

1 of 16

With 40 professional fights already under his belt, 24-year-old Dustin "The Beast" Neace is seasoned far beyond his years. However, a mediocre record of 22-17-1 shows that Neace simply might not have the talent to compete in the UFC.

Neace's experience alone might allow him to pick up a win or two on the reality series, but it would be quite a shock if he won the featherweight tournament.

15. Hamid Corassani

2 of 16

Swedish-born Hamid "Akira" Corassani enters The Ultimate Fighter with a respectable 9-3 record. However, Corassani is coming off of a technical knockout loss in his last appearance.

Corassani has a decent ground game but tends to fold fairly quickly when put in a compromising position. All three of Corassani's losses have come via ground and pound in the second round.

14. Karsten Lenjoint

3 of 16

Fighting out of England, Karsten Lenjoint is a dynamic striker with a developing ground game. Lenjoint has an impressive 7-1 record, but he hasn't exactly been mixing it up with top competition.

With the right stylistic matchups, Lenjoint could make a run on The Ultimate Fighter. However, if Lenjoint runs into a wrestler with solid submission defense, he could be in trouble.

13. Josh Clopton

4 of 16

Josh "The Gentleman" Clopton is undefeated in five professional appearances. However, Clopton squeaked by with a split decision over a 3-3 opponent in his most recent fight.

Clopton has the wrestling to take out fighters like the aforementioned Karsten Lenjoint, but his inability to finish middling opponents is troubling.

12. Diego Brandao

5 of 16

With a record of 13-7, Diego Brandao's career has been incredibly inconsistent. Brandao holds a win over current UFC fighter Brian Foster, but he has also been knocked out by multiple opponents who have not made names for themselves.

Training out of Jackson's MMA, Brandao has won his past three fights, though. If Brandao can put everything together, he could be a dark horse in the competition. However, another disappointing setback in the later rounds of the tournament seems more likely.

11. Bryson Hansen

6 of 16

After getting his career off to a perfect start through five fights, Bryson Hansen was caught in a triangle choke in his most recent bout. Still, Hansen is a solid prospect, as the loss came against an undefeated opponent.

The Hawaiian, who has a suplex knockout on his record, has the ability to overpower his opponents. Time will tell if Hansen's submission defense was exposed as a major weakness in his last fight, though.

10. Brian Pearman

7 of 16

In eight professional fights, Brian Pearman has only suffered one loss, which came via split decision in March 2009.

With more than half of his wins coming by decision, Pearman's style isn't overwhelming, but it gets the job done against competition he is capable of beating.

9. Jimmie Rivera

8 of 16

A former Bellator fighter, Jimmie "El Terror" Rivera has posted an impressive 8-1 record in his first three years of competition. Rivera's only loss came via split decision against Jason McLean, who holds a win over UFC fighter Ken Stone.

A scrappy fighter with a well-rounded game, Rivera is the type of fighter who will give any opponent a tough fight.

8. Steven Siler

9 of 16

With a record of 18-9, Steven "Super" Siler is one of the more experienced featherweights heading into Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter. With fights against Chad Mendes and Cole Escovedo, Siler isn't going to be intimidated by any of his competition on the reality show.

Training out of Victory MMA, which is home to a number of current UFC fighters, Siler has developed an excellent ground game that has helped him secure 12 of his 18 wins by submission.

7. Jesse Newell

10 of 16

Jesse Newell has finished six of his first seven opponents, with his only loss coming via submission to an undefeated opponent in January 2010.

Newell is fairly well-rounded, but he doesn't appear to have the superb talent needed in any one aspect of his game to go the distance in this competition.

6. Bryan Caraway

11 of 16

A WEC and Strikeforce veteran, Bryan "Kid Lightning" Caraway is one of several experienced featherweights on Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Although he has probably become better known as Miesha Tate's boyfriend since then, Caraway has fought against UFC talent, such as Mark Hominick and Ian Loveland.

With 13 of his 15 career wins coming by way of submission, Caraway will be a problem for any of his opponents on the ground.

5. Dennis Bermudez

12 of 16

After winning the first seven fights of his MMA career, Dennis "The Menace" Bermudez has suffered back-to-back losses heading into The Ultimate Fighter.

Bermudez is dangerous on his feet, but both of his losses have come via rear naked choke in the first round. With a win over former UFC fighter Shannon Gugerty, Bermudez is a threat, though he will need to show improvement on the ground.

4. Marcus Brimage

13 of 16

With a 3-1 record, Marcus Brimage is inexperienced but extremely talented. The 26-year-old possesses brutal ground and pound that has already led him to victories over former Bellator fighter Bryan Goldsby and former UFC fighter Kyle Bradley.

Training out of American Top Team, Brimage will certainly be one of the early favorite to win this featherweight tournament.

3. Stephen Bass

14 of 16

Undefeated in his first 10 professional fights, Stephen "Big Fish" Bass also has recorded a win over Bellator veteran Bryan Goldsby.

The 28-year-old has a well-rounded ground game that should make him a favorite against any opponent with sub-par takedown defense.

2. Eric Marriott

15 of 16

In 25 professional fights, Eric "The Machine" Marriott has not been finished. The 25-year-old Bellator veteran has also mixed it up with elite competition like Joe Warren.

Sporting an impressive record of 20-5, with a win over former The Ultimate Fighter participant Michael Johnson, Marriott has the experience and toughness to grind his way toward beoming The Ultimate Fighter.

1. Micah Miller

16 of 16

The younger brother of UFC veteran Cole Miller, Micah Miller is the second of two American Top Team fighters competing in this featherweight tournament.

With nine career submissions already under his belt, the 24-year-old Miller is probably the most naturally skilled fighter in this competition. Add experience against fighters like Michihiro Omigawa and Miller has to be considered the early favorite.
