Future Endeavors: 5 Wrestlers That Benefited from Their WWE Departure

Gone Baby GoneDec 24, 2011

Over the years, the WWE has lost some serious talent. Some were shown the door while others decided that they were ready for a change.

I have compiled a list of five wrestlers that moved on from the WWE and continued to succeed. Some had a rough time getting to the right place, while others had a relatively easy transition.

Either way everyone on this list went on to have better careers than what they were facing in the WWE.

Granted, had it not been for their time in the WWE they would not have had a name to build off of. However, instead of looking into the Indy purgatory in the sky, they decided to write their own history and continue to be relevant.

A-Train

1 of 5

Now known as Giant Bernard, A-Train was stuck in mid-card hell with the WWE. Now he is with New Japan Pro Wrestling and has seen some major tag-team success.

A-Train was released from the WWE in 2004, and shortly after, went to Japan to continue his now illustrious career.

MVP

MVP saw the writing on the wall.

The man who was once touted as having the biggest free agent contract ever, was stuck in lower mid-card hell.

After having several successful runs with the US and IC title, Montel Vontavious Porter found himself teaming with Mark Henry (and not winning).

This is when he decided to call it quits and head to Japan. Since his departure he has won the IC title and works alongside several of New Japan's top performers.

Jeff Jarrett

3 of 5

Love or loathe him, Jarrett was involved in the biggest public firing in WWE history.

Some would have just thrown in the towel or tried to survive in the Indy's.

Instead Jarrett decided to create his own promotion, which is now one of the biggest competitors of the WWE.

Brock Lesnar

Lesnar left the WWE at the top of his game, and over the years fans have been lukewarm about Lesnar—that is until his recent MMA success.

Lesnar's WWE departure was far from graceful, as both he and Goldberg were laid out flat in the ring by Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania, and wrestling fans were far from happy about Lesnar's decision to leave the WWE.

However, over time, they came to respect it and now some are even pining for the return of "The Next Big Thing." This latest interest was spurned from his agreement to have his likeness used for the latest WWE video game WWE '12.

Chances are Lesnar will not come back to wrestle, especially after he calls it quits from MMA. Not many people know that Lesnar is not a huge fan of being in the spotlight and lives in a small, isolated Minnesota town just to be able to keep hunting and stay grounded.

In the end, Lesnar did what he felt was the right thing for him and it paid off.

Christian

5 of 5

If Christian had not left the WWE for TNA in 2005, he may never have landed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2011.

That may have been one of the best moves of his career, as it allowed him a chance to be the face of a company and prove that he is worthy of being "the man."
