Former Miami AD Paul Dee the New Face of Hypocrisy
Paul Dee may want to start issuing apologies now.
The former Athletic Director for the University of Miami has been the judge, jury, and executioner for NCAA compliance cases, including the monumental Reggie Bush case at USC.
Dee pushed for the axe to drop on the Trojans after the details of the Reggie Bush scandal were uncovered.
""This case strikes at the heart of the principles of amateurism," stated Dee.
"
Really? It takes a lot of brass to make such a judgemental statement when the university you oversaw is quickly being revealed as one of the dirtiest in history.
Dee was not only the Athletic Director during the latest round of allegations in Coral Gables, but was also the overseeing Miami athletics during the mid-90s when the Pell Grant scandal was uncovered.
He claimed to have not known or seen of any behavior out of booster Nevin Shapiro that would have led him to believe that NCAA compliance rules were being broken.
I guess the report of Shapiro trying to pick a fight with the Compliance Director for the Hurricanes in the press box during a game was no big deal.
And for someone who stressed to USC the importance of knowing exactly what is going on with your student athletes, it's amusing to hear that Dee provided university escorts to Shapiro so that he could visit practice when he wanted to.
I'm not saying that it's reasonable to expect Paul Dee to know about every little thing that goes on with his players, but it's also not reasonable for him to expect that from other universities.
USC got a punishment that they deserved, but with Miami having 72 players involved with the latest scandal and having a history of NCAA rule-breaking, what punishment is appropriate for the Canes?
Fortunately for Dee, he is no longer employed by Miami so he'll be spared the embarrassment of being fired.
Regardless of the outcome or the punishment handed down to Miami, Paul Dee is quickly cementing his legacy to be summed up in one word: Hypocrite.
